Meet Maya Clark of Indubitable Fitness in Southwest Atlanta and Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Clark.

Maya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my time as a student on the collegiate level, I have seen and heard a lot within the various college campus communities. I see young women struggling to get in shape, young women having a hard time eating right. Unfortunately, I also hear about sexual assault/harassment and other unwelcomed advances toward women that are becoming a national issue.

I established Indubitable Fitness because fortunately, I have always been physically active due to my background in dance and Taekwondo, where I hold a Black belt. It is and has always been my desire to share what I have learned for the betterment of humanity, especially women and girls. During this current climate of a global pandemic, I’ve had the good fortune of expanding what I was already doing to reach people all across the world, both domestic and internationally.

Indubitable Fitness blends dance and self-defense techniques to build strength and confidence. These exercises teach women how to protect themselves from physical assault. Living in the college community, I often hear of stories involving women being assaulted (physically/sexually), and some even sold into sex trafficking. After hearing these stories, I felt an obligation to use my talents to empower my sisters. “Indubitable Fitness” is built on three prongs:
- Health/Wellness of Black Women
 – Self-Defense Techniques
- Awareness/Prevention of Assault (Physical/Sexual) and Sex Trafficking

My platform, “Girl Power,” builds on these things as well. The whole purpose of “Girl Power” and Indubitable Fitness is to encourage women to be empowered in their voices and their bodies. With these tools, I believe that this will inspire so many young women to beat the odds and always love themselves to the fullest.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting Indubitable Fitness definitely has not been easy. When I officially began my business, COVID-19 was starting to impact the United States increasingly. Because of this, I never got a chance to host formal classes in a shared space. As a fitness instructor, it’s hard connecting with the people you serve, especially when you’re so used to being in the same room and sharing energy throughout the class. Also, technology is so unpredictable. With the influx of Zoom and other social media platform (i.e., Instagram & Facebook) usage, you are faced with a lot of chances for technical difficulties that can hinder the success of your business. Speaking from personal experience, I post fitness content every single day, and sometimes it may not upload right when I want it to, which changes the amount of traffic my page receives daily. I will say, however, that because this is our “new normal,” I have made an effort to adjust how I teach and carry out my platform of “Girl Power.” Each of the classes that I teach via Zoom or Instagram Live are always filled with positive vibes – together, we are going to get through this and get IF FIT!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Indubitable Fitness is a black-owned fitness centered business founded by Maya Clark, that emphasizes the importance of keeping our women safe. As a current student at Spelman College, she saw a need to produce an innovative way to exercise and learn self-defense techniques to protect women. By combining dance and self-defense, we promote holistic well-being and safety for all women. We also offer reasonably priced private and group training sessions, meal plans, merchandise/apparel, and daily access to well-known workout videos posted on our Instagram (@indubitablefitness) and Facebook (Indubitable Fitness).

As a company, we are most proud of the overwhelming support from family, friends, and of course, anyone else that has supported Indubitable Fitness! We believe that our consistency has played a vital role in our success. By posting our daily motivational quotes along with workout content, we are creating a space for you to not only be physically well but also spiritually well. Also, the positive vibes and excitement we bring to our virtual classes emulate the same feeling of an in-person session. We encourage our viewers to get active and take care of the bodies given to them – you only live once.

It’s no secret that Indubitable Fitness is still building, but we are a program that provides transparency and structure. Indubitable means impossible to doubt; unquestionable. This definition that we hold high and stand by. We put our customers/viewers first at all times and are always crafting new ways to ensure that everyone reaches their fitness goals. We are Indubitable Fitness, and it is certainly impossible to doubt that we will make sure to always do right by you!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up as an only child, I was constantly trying to find ways to occupy myself. Since I was three years old, I have always been physically active by engaging in sports such as dance, taekwondo, and basketball. Aside from just being physically active, I have been heavily involved in my community. Every Saturday and a few days out of the week during my time on campus, I would commit myself to do community service. Projects that varied from mentoring, packaging food, and community clean-ups. I love giving back to the communities that have raised me and contributed to who I am today. As an English (Pre-Law) and Dance Performance & Choreography double major at Spelman, I aspire to become a lawyer that specializes in Civil Rights, Real Estate, and Entertainment/Sports. I chose these areas because I will be able to continue my commitment to service by empowering the Black community to defend their civil rights, assisting and providing education in establishing property wealth, and protecting their gifts and talents from exploitation. There is no better feeling than helping to pave the way for the next generation to continue the legacy of being changemakers.
