Meet Maya Galore of Atlanta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Galore

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was the girl in college who did everyone’s brows and sew-ins. I not only found creative freedom in beauty routines, but I also loved how confident it made me & other women feel. So, I started a freelance makeup business and was constantly pressured by clients to start a YouTube channel. Once I did, there was no looking back! I fell in love with the creativity behind creating, filming & editing. Two and a half years after starting my channel, I posted a video called “Makeup for Beginners” and 4 months after publishing it, it single-handedly skyrocketed my career. It currently sits at 6.2 million views on YouTube.

My channel has makeup tutorials, but also vlogs that showcase my daily life with my daughter, who is now 13. I began to use my platform to not only help women look their best on the outside, but also share my experiences, opinions & trails as a woman in order to help them grow internally as well. With such a large platform, I knew God wanted me to make a difference, and I’ve also been through a lot on a personal level. I felt it was my calling to provide relatability & transparency in an industry where it lacks so heavily.

Now, I am known for helping women to elevate their lives – through makeup, style & self love. I encourage women to do the work to love & choose themselves everyday – whether that looks like mastering an easy makeup routine, creating a capsule wardrobe to look & feel their best, or traveling alone to get to know themselves better. Makeup tutorials paved the way for me to have such a larger impact, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been a smooth road. I have encountered many obstacles, including constant frustration with my own creativity, dealing with negativity from viewers/followers, and understanding the business side of content creating.

Dealing with negativity has probably been one of my biggest challenges, although I have a way better handle on it now versus when I started 7 years ago. In this business, it is imperative to know who you are, why you’re here and what you stand for. Because if you do not, the nay-sayers on the internet will eat you alive! Being that I share many aspects of my life online beyond makeup tutorials, I’ve dealt with a lot of unwarranted opinions. But I’ve learned so much about myself through my business and I no longer allow the negativity to stunt me. I mean they do say if you have haters, you’re probably doing something right!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an influencer and content creator in the beauty & lifestyle space. I specialize in makeup tutorials, fashion styling for everyday and elevating self-love in women.

So many women are taught to prioritize other people before themselves, and though admirable, that can make the quality of our lives decrease because we are not on our own plate. So my desire is to choose me first so that I have a cup to pour from. This is how I live my life in private & online, and I want this for everyone who watches me.

I am most proud of relaying that messaging through my content. I believe this sets me apart because I am not only focused on outer appearance, which holds its own weight. I am also focused on our inner-selves & mental health. I want women to see me and see a God-fearing woman who puts herslef first & does not let the wants & needs of other’s dictate how my life will unfold. And if I can live my life prioritizing myself, so can she!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was always creating something! Whether it was through drawing, writing music, or learning how to do new hairstyles – I was always being an artist in some way or another. I grew up with 4 siblings and I was the youngest (let my twin brother tell it), and I often felt like I was seen as “the baby.” So I always felt the need to stand up for myself, which I believe was the foundation of my passion for advocating for myself & other women today. From a young age I’ve always had so much compassion & empathy for others’ emotions, experiences & troubles. And that has helped to carry me into the career I have now. I used to be ashamed of that part of me. But it truly made me who I am today.
