Today we’d like to introduce you to Medinah Monroe.
Medinah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never followed my “plan”, I try to try new things all the time and I try to stay true to myself every step of the way on this journey called life. I say TRY because I am not one of those people who has one of those profound inspiring stories, at least I don’t think so. I have failed at a lot in my life (21 savage a lot) but one thing I am really good at is trying.
I am the youngest of 3 and ever since I was a kid I enjoyed being funny, some might call it the center of attention. In everything I have ever done in life I’m always the one who can get people to open up even if they don’t know me from Adam! I look at that as a gift, there is something about me that provides a certain level of comfort for folks I embrace it and have also incorporated that talent in my corporate, radio, podcast and voice over career. Being personable is a thing that people really cherish.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For me, the road has been weird. Some struggles I have faced along the way have been networking. Figuring out what it is I’m missing to network the right way. I often find myself in rooms with people whom I know could take my career to the next level but won’t invest for some reason. Another struggle has been and still is having a top podcast in which I travel doing live shows in front of hundreds of people, a successful voice over career and then waking up and remembering I still have to come to my 9-5 lol
Please tell us about Cocktales Dirty Discussions.
I am known for my voice in the podcasting world as well as my voice over various commercials. CockTales: Dirty Discussions is hosted by Kiki Said So and myself Medinah Monroe. We are both to young women in different stages of our love lives; both single with different points of views when it come to sex, dating, love sugar daddies, sexuality. We give uncensored accounts about our sex and dating lives, relationships, and what it’s really like to navigate the sea of love in Atlanta. On CockTales, we gather over great drinks and discuss the latest happenings in all aspects of our lives. In doing that we have reached a very diverse audience!
What sets my show apart from all of the other millions of podcasts and what has been able to keep us topping the charts and selling out shows is the honesty in each episode that we bring. I am most proud of my ability to connect with my listeners in a real way. I have people all over the world that reach out and tell me it feels like I am their best friend or it feels like when they listen to cocktales they are really just having drinks with their girls!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My family plays a huge role in everything I do in my life! Whenever I feel like giving up my mom (Gina Scott), my dad (Kariem Ali), My Big sister (Mecca Rayne from Channel 5 KOCO), My brother ( Malik Ali) huddle around me and remind me who I am and where I come from and that even though this journey comes with a lot of different setbacks and struggles never give up. They have always believed in me even at times when I did not. My voice coach Eileen helped me learn the voice over business which is very hard to get into. My Mentor Ms. Williams has always been another Medinah believer lol she is constantly telling me to keep going and always has since I met her my freshman year in college.
I also host cocktales with my long time friend kiki said so who has honestly been such a blessing when it comes to learning about how to make a business grow and continue to grow. I can’t thank her enough for extending the invite to co-produce our show! I also have to shout out my very best friend Brittany Beresford she literally is like my own Kris Jenner when I need branding ideas for my personal brand she is always there to help out or if I have a radio interview she will often come with me to make sure I don’t forget to mention any new projects I am working on or to simply just remind me to be myself.
