Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg B Rowlett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been collaborating on creative projects for 11 years since I lived in Las Vegas. This act of collecting people with a vision and bringing them together has been one of my greatest joys. I love meeting passionate photographers, artists, makers, directors, and models and executing fun projects where we all benefit in the end from a cohesive experience. It fills my cup and I dare say that it reinvigorates and inspires those around me. Now I am taking a natural leap into the future with these types of people and these types of collective creations. My new business is going to be a little larger than my previous salon’s grasp. It is called Milieu and it means a persons social environment, and that is exactly what we are creating. Everything I’ve ever done in my life has lead me to this next step.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Plans change, roads dead end, and people grow and it all makes for a bumpy ride. Nobody ever died on a bumpy ride it just makes you hold on tighter. I have never failed at a single thing in my 32-year-old life. That is a fact that I believe wholeheartedly, however, I may have a bad memory or it may all be perspective. Regardless, the struggles usually look like having not quite enough money and I am the type that can get very creative when my back is up against the wall. Money is one resource that you can find anywhere even on your couch. The resource that you can not find more of is time, this is not easily found in your couch, therefore, I try to use my time wisely.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Milieu is my new business and it is a social environment that is home to many creatives and educators in our community. Some will have a permanent private area within Milieu such as my salon, Meg B White Salon, and others will come and educate and inspire the rest of us in their field of work. In the last six years, I have had many experts walk into my life via my salon and I want to give them all a platform to share their expertise. I often view myself as a plant and my goals are much like any human and they include lots of natural light, water, and attention and that is what Milieu will provide as a company to other creatives to set us apart.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a perfect place for businesses such as mine because, in this day and age, we are all so disconnected that we can all use a little bit of reconnection. You will reconnect with your community and like-minded people at Milieu as well as in my salon chair at Meg B White Salon. If someone was just starting out here, I would tell them to go in public and meet like-minded people and follow the energy and build your tribe. Our city can always do better by encouraging face to face interactions (after traffic dies down, of course).
