Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Carty.
Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am from the Mississippi gulf coast and have always been in love with all things botanical. I studied landscape design and horticulture in school. In college, I worked for a landscape architect at a high end nursery. Additionally, I worked many special events for a fine dining restaurant, where the catering/floral/event design world was fully introduced to me. The floral design bug hit me hard at 19 and I quickly fell in love. I became obsessed with designing with colors and textures and blending naturally wild foliage with prim and poised blooms.
I have been in Atlanta for 5 years this fall and have had the honor of studying under some of this city’s best landscape and floral designers. Bringing what I love about flowers and botanical life to the public is a dream come true and I am ecstatic to open my shop in the heart of Atlanta.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would love to say yes, it has been smooth! It’s easy for me to only see the good things in life but the truth is I have simply been blessed with a positive spirit. There have been several struggles along the way. The service industry isn’t always a friendly one. Hearing people criticize my work was a tough lesson to overcome. Then, having clients not want to pay for the hard work I put in was even tougher. In fact, I took a break from design all together to work in marketing because I had enough of the hardships.
However, as most artists know, one cannot rid their lives of a creative outlet for long. An itch to get my hands (literally) dirty again began to seep deep into my soul. I started to paint as an outlet (which started another obsession) and then, I couldn’t ignore the flowers calling me back any longer.
Fleur Atlanta LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Fleur Atlanta LLC is first a floral design company. Creating floral and botanical designs for weddings, events, businesses and clients over the past 10 years has been my love language.
I love to encouraging people to bring the garden indoors. Fresh cut flowers, unique indoor plants, orchids and conversation starting centerpieces. Not only do these add aesthetic appeal but will literally better our lives by even purifying the air we breath!
My hands tend to bring what I love most in gardens into my designs. A mix of wild lines with textured foliage and bright blooms, full of bold feminine energy create a look that is quite one of a kind.
I am so excited about opening The Fleur Shop within Bazati Hall. Fleur will have everything one would expect from a floral boutique, but with a unique twist.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Wow… true success? I don’t know if there is an end goal really. I view it as loving what I am doing right now today and putting everything I have towards growing myself and my business’ future.
The first thing that comes to mind is, “what drives me?”. Am I waking up with fire in my bones to be better? Be the best? If what I put all my effort towards drives that spark inside of me, I feel that is step one towards being successful. Creating a career out of what you are passionate about is the dream, right?
Second, creating a rhythm so that not only I am satisfied with the work I am doing but so are the people I am servicing. If the effort I put out isn’t making my clients happier than they were before they came to me, what am I even doing?
Third, realizing that I am better today than yesterday. If I can see growth in myself, my business and my product in years, months, even days behind me… I know I am on the success path.
