Meet Megan Veal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Veal.

Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out doing hair when I was 14 years old, I started out doing my hair and then I moved on to doing friends and family. I knew when I graduated high school that I would be going to Cosmetology school. After graduating high school I enrolled in Georgia Institute of Cosmetology school. It took me a year to complete my classes and training and I passed the state-board test on the first try!

Like most of us, I started out in my mom’s kitchen and eventually went into my first salon. It wasn’t the best experience but I didn’t let that get me down I kept going! Doing hair out of my apartment and also working a regular job, I decided to give another salon a try and once again I was disappointed. The owner of this particular salon only wanted me to be an assistant and I knew I could be so much more than that. I kept pushing, still working a regular job and doing hair out of my apartment. I finally got a call from Sabrina Lee, the owner of HerWay Beauty & Spa and we’ve been rocking ever since.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been easy. I didn’t have a car when I was in cosmetology school so I would have to catch a ride or my parents would drop me off and pick me. Trying to build my clientele I think was one of my biggest challenges. You always have someone in your ear saying “yea girl I will book with you” but they never do. I think that can be frustrating for someone just starting out.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Master Cosmetologist, specializing in all healthy hair first and all things Glueless and natural installs. I am most known for my Glueless Quickweaves and silk press. I am most proud of the businesswoman I am becoming and I know there is so much more in store for me. I am proud that I can still be a mom and wife and run a business at the same time. I think what sets me apart from other stylists is I’m not in the industry just for the quick money! I truly care about my clients’ hair. For example, a client comes in with alopecia or a lot of balding around the edges and she wants a sew-in! I will not just give her what she wants I will recommend something that that will not cause more tension. If you want a stylist to do just anything to your hair then I’m not the stylist for you.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Do not change your prices for someone saying it’s too high or too much because someone out there is willing to pay what your worth!
