Meet Melanie Holder of BE leaf Wellness Teas in South Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Holder.

Melanie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Teas have always been a part of my life. Growing up, I was told by my grandmother and other adults, “Coffee is for grown-ups.” Tea was fair game, however, and I have many fond memories of sharing tea with my grandmothers. I find that a good cup of tea brings sun to the soul….

The torch was lit years ago when I decided I wanted to help people to eat good foods and live healthier lives. I studied Culinary Arts in the late 90’s and then decided to further my education and studies in Nutrition of Dietetics in 2002-2004. I became a Board Registered and Licensed Dietitian in 2008. Over the years of empowering people to live healthier lives through nutrition, I started to want to offer people more. This led me to begin researching more holistic and whole health approaches. I, once again, enrolled in school and this time my focus was on Holistic Nutrition.

In the interim, I began gardening and creating a healthier plate for me and my family. It was not until my breast cancer diagnosis in late 2018, several surgeries, and months of chemo that I took my passion to the next level. I was determined not be a victim but to use this as an opportunity to help myself and be the light for others. I knew I wanted to use teas as my medium, so I completed Tea Specialist coursework through World Tea Academy. From here, I used my culinary experience, clinical skills, holistic knowledge, and my new tea studies to create an all-natural product that would benefit others like me and those with their own stories.

The name BE leaf Wellness Teas comes from one of my school lessons that I was taught, “Belief and Trusting in Life’s Perfection.” Shout-out to Dr. Henele, Energetic Health Institute!

Has it been a smooth road?
My road has had its share of hills and curves. The creation of BE leaf Wellness Teas came during a turning point in my life. I pushed through the adversities of surgeries, chemo and feeling ill at times to become a champion in my own health and wellness and to lead by examples to others.

I do want to add-here- that during this journey, I did not travel alone. I married 5 days after my cancer diagnosis and carried the guilt of being “sick” and having my new husband having to take care of me. BUT my husband did not skip a beat and supported me through it all. Even more, he started studying herbs and alternative and complementary therapies to help me get through this time. I took advantage of his knowledge and used it to help with formulating different teas. He also kept the garden thriving! I must also give credit to my son and my mom-both kept me uplifted during this time and were used as tea testers-testing EACH and EVERY tea!
