Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Hutchinson.
Melanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story began 25 years ago in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Because of God, the support of family and friends and perseverance, I’ve been able to achieve some of my dreams. My name is Melanie Hutchinson and I’m a publicist, Youtuber, and singer located in the DMV area. My interest in music began when I was a young girl. I would sing in the choir church and perform in the Christmas and Easter plays. In fourth grade, I started playing the violin and in middle school, I learned the piano. In 2018, I took a leap of faith and started writing and recording music. I actually opened up for Blockboy JB and Gucci Mane at a concert at RFK Stadium in D.C. In regards to my public relations career, I’ve been able to work with amazing brands like Moët Hennessy, Rent the Runway, Rumble Boxing, and more. I enjoy planning events, working with social media influencers, small and large businesses, and organizing television segments for my clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not been smooth. I’ve been told “no” many times but that translates to Next Opportunity. I’ve learned that having obstacles builds characters and gives wisdom, especially in the music industry. When I first began recording music, I wanted to put out my songs fast, now that I understand the game, I’m waiting until my I’s are dotted and my T’s are crossed.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in PR and marketing! My other passions are YouTube and music. What I’m most proud of is being able to work with some amazing brands and likeminded creatives. Before COVID-19 struck, I was fortunate to do PR for the Lil Baby concert in January. The show was completely sold out and a huge success! For many years I had aspirations of becoming a news anchor but now I get to showcase my love for journalism through my YouTube channel which has become a passion project for me during the quarantine. The focus of my channel is beauty, fashion, and lifestyle.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to spend more time in the studio and bring life to a business that I’ve been working on, more details on the way!
