Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Miranda.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melanie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been dreaming this dream since my very early childhood years. I will say I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to make my dreams come true but I’ve always had the passion and desire to perform and ultimately be a storyteller. I grew up in Youngstown, Ohio a very small town where I had a taste of being on camera, creating short films and learning how to use the equipment behind the scenes, all during my high school years. I fell in love with the Entertainment industry instantly. I went on to college at the University of Alabama at Birmingham to study Theatre and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts (BFA) and a concentration in “Performance.” I studied amongst amazing instructors who truly shaped the actress that I am today and the freedom I have as a performer.
While I was in Birmingham, Alabama for college, I became aware of how much the Film Industry was growing in Atlanta, GA and decided that would be my next destination to further pursue my goals and dreams. While finishing up my degree, I began taking classes at Get Scene Studios commuting back and forth until graduation day and officially moved to Atlanta. I was extremely blessed to have moved and booked a significant amount of roles in Theatre and Television. You’re probably wondering how the music industry ties into my story. I actually never truly sang in front of anyone and people never knew I could sing until I released my first “single.” Writing lyrics was always a hobby for me and I had been writing for years, so for me, I always had a passion I kept to myself for music, it was just a matter of “when” and “how.” I eventually wrote a song called “October” that pushed me to do my research to get it recorded and released. It was a lot of trial and error trying to learn about the Music Industry but after getting in the studio for the first time, I was hooked! I released a few singles and started writing what is now my EP that is called “Conflicted.” I’ve been extremely excited be able to perform my own music and have been continuing to rehearse with a team of choreographers and dancers to have a show people can remember!
Has it been a smooth road?
Being in the Entertainment Industry, in general, is never a smooth road. I believe even if you’re extremely blessed and book every day, we all have struggles in some area in our life that we have to work through. I would say my biggest challenge is being a workaholic. Even if it’s not being booked, I’m producing my own projects, etc. and I have a hard time taking time to just rest so I usually have to schedule that time in to make sure I’m healthy enough mentally and physically to keep going!
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m blessed to say I am a triple threat in the entertainment business. I am an actress, singer, dancer. When it comes to music I bring a Latin flavor to Pop music specifically trying to bridge the gap between the Latino culture and Mainstream Pop music. Performing live, I’m able to incorporate my passion for dance and acting. My hope is to inspire and captivate others within each realm of creativity.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe the industry will evolve and make room for more diversity within different cultures. In both music and film we are already having so much success with bringing in new language and culture to “Mainstream” projects. I believe over the years it will continue to progress and we will have a new wave of “mainstream” that brings everyone together.
