Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Bennett.
Hi Melissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m Melissa Bennett, ND, and the owner of The Olive Leaf in Roswell, Georgia. My path to functional healthcare began after my own breast cancer journey, which inspired me to look deeper into the root causes of illness and the body’s ability to heal when given the right support. At 33, I was diagnosed with an aggressive disease and underwent 2 years of chemotherapy and 46 radiation treatments. At that time, I was given a 45% chance of survival, and that was 25 years ago. I have been practicing since 2008. I love combining evidence-based functional testing with nutrition and lifestyle medicine to help co-manage patients with their medical practitioners, therapists, dieticians, and chiropractors. Through The Olive Leaf, we help clients restore balance, optimize health, and discover how vibrant life can feel when we reset ourselves and regain health by identifying the cause and helping you make healthy choices.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
During this journey, I faced not only the physical and emotional challenges of treatment but also the reality of raising two young daughters (3 and 6) and holding my family together through it all. My husband, who was a chiropractor, became severely withdrawn and wasn’t able to be present during that season, so I had to lean deeply on faith and determination. Those two years of chemo became a time of incredible transformation. Every three weeks, I would share what I called my “chemtails,” amazing miracles that kept showing up even in the most challenging moments, and pick a new person to sit beside each treatment to share a miracle and encourage them. After finishing treatment, I remember praying and asking God to help me help others. And He’s been organizing every step ever since, from each office I’ve worked in, to the creation of my practice, The Olive Leaf, and even to the podcast I started with my daughter, The Olive and The Lamb, where we share more of the backstory behind those miracles. It’s been a journey of resilience, faith, and purpose, and it continues to remind me why I do what I do: to walk with others through their own healing stories.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that if we love God and love others as ourselves, then life is lived to its fullest potential. When I have a patient in my office, I truly empathize with what they are going through, and I strive to understand what they are experiencing. I love to offer encouragement and help motivate patients to be the best they can be, and to partner with them on their health journey. I also believe that healing is not always about the physical alone, but also about the emotional and spiritual, and that all three need to be in balance to achieve complete restoration.
