Meet Meltrice (Mel) Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meltrice (Mel) Gray.

Hi Meltrice (Mel), so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child, I loved making people smile and feel good. My family and those closest to me would always say, “she’s so pretty and funny”. Don’t get me wrong, and let me be the 1st to tell you, those kind words made me feel UNSTOPPABLE.

As I grew older, I quickly learned (through varies life experiences) being told you’re “pretty and funny”, will only get you so far when it comes to truly knowing who you are as an individual and how you can genuinely contribute towards the success of others. After all, life is about being of service to others, not being receivers all the time.

As a young person in high school, I knew I had the gift of making my friends laugh and feel good about themselves through beauty because what girl doesn’t like compliments, getting her nails done or rocking a dope hairstyle, lol.

As an adult and working in the beauty industry for over two decades my aim has never changed. Either on a movie set or in my salon, I continue to create, encourage, inspire, and to successfully make anyone that leaves my chair feeling their ultimate best all with the stroke of a comb, or a makeup brush, then my mission has been accomplished.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Obstacles/challenges is all relative depending on what one compares it to. Has the road been smooth, no, and you will have your fair share of highs and lows. However, these unforeseen occurrences, when embraced and learned from, will mold you to become the best version of yourself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Hairstylist/ Makeup Artist for over 21 years. I’m a Salon owner, and I’m actively working in the Film/Tv industry as a hairstylist. I’m a creative, so whatever I put my mind to I am determined to master. You know how the saying goes, ‘the world is my oyster’ or seashell or is a clam, something like that lol. Seriously, in this industry you have to know how to do/ specialize in just about everything.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk is not betting on yourself.
