Today we’d like to introduce you to Melvin Bell.
Melvin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2013 I started my corner store on wheels business with having multiple ice-cream trucks. When I would work the neighborhoods my customers would ask me did I sell I food on the ice-cream trucks. I started to sell nachos as a food option, then later incorporated other finger foods to sell to my customers.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles I had along the way building my initial clientele. It was hard for people to trust my business because It was something that they never seen before. In order to overcome that obstacle, I had to build a rapport with the people who purchased from my truck. After a while, they trusted shopping with me and told their friends and family about my business which was very helpful.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Answer The Bell story. Tell us more about the business.
Answer the Bell always took pride in providing food service for individuals who don’t have transportation to get to a regular store or a grocery store. We try to help the community as much as we can by giving back on the holidays and also being a top contractor for the public schools in the Metro Atlanta area.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe my industry will be even more mobile than before. I think it will be more mobile businesses around oppose to just seeing the majority of them at parks when festivals and events take place. I think a lot of people will prefer mobile business than brick and motor because of convenience. People don’t have to leave their homes anymore. Everything can be brought to their doorstep.
