Melynda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I owe my mother Dr. Cynthia Miles for my gift of writing and passion for Language Arts. I am the daughter of two retired educators who always wanted to ensure the best for me, but most importantly, they wanted to make sure that I knew my worth and what I was capable of. My father is now a retired principal and my mother is a retired English teacher. Academics has always been a priority and my head was always been in a book! I often competed in school spelling bees, reading camps, and academic conventions throughout grade school. I began writing my own short stories in the 8th grade and haven’t been able to put my pencil down since! After completing high school, I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Mass Communications at Valdosta State University in 2010. Shortly thereafter, in 2013, I received my Master of Public Administration degree from Grand Canyon University.
After furthering my education and jumping into the “real world”, I quickly became bored with the mundane 9 to 5 and just felt like doing more and being more. Writing has always been a great escape for me. I’m free and truly at peace with myself and the world when I am writing poetry, blogging about current events, important social issues, and developing short stories for the youth. Despite my passion for writing, I’ve always had the heart to serve and be an advocate in my community. Hence, I decided to use my talents to help others and began brainstorming about various business ventures.
Initially, I started my own blog in 2014 on WordPress where I frequently posted my poetry, inspirational writing, and whatever came to mind that I thought was important to share with the world. Other writers gave great feedback and I was honestly shocked because it can be very scary to share your personal work in hope for others to receive and understand your heartfelt thoughts. After conquering my cold feet, I thought about taking my talents a step further by drafting a writing service that only included resume repair. This was a great hit locally for me! I received numerous referrals, but most importantly, the majority of my clients have been able to accomplish their goals with my assistance. I was blown away with how many “I got the job!” emails and I knew I had chosen the right business to start. I honestly love seeing others win! Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in life is easy right?! Of course, there were times where I doubted myself and endured slow months in business, but I kept striving to find new ways to do business and keep business flowing. I’m a full-time mother first and foremost, so it can be difficult to juggle business, personal life, and family but it’s not impossible. It takes discipline, balance, and determination to wear so many hats. It can be overwhelming at times, but blessings are never burdens.
