Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Nolan.
Micah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
TreuKaarmaa started out as a small shoe customization business. I always knew my heart was with fashion though. In high school I would design shoes or clothes for my closest friends and classmates as a little hustle. As time went on, I got my attention and recognition for my work which later ended up on magazine covers and more. As time went on and after I graduated, I started sewing and painting on clothes more than shoes, which is how the clothing line came about. About two years ago I stopped working regular jobs and went into business for myself full time. It has had its challenges of course but, the most rewarding thing watching and being able to bring my ideas to life and people love, enjoy, and understand it. Through my clothing I try to promote the act of being self-aware on how you treat people and stigmas in society. Through my brand I try to tell my stories or emotions in a sense of an opposite life or just the concept of what goes around comes around. This includes personal vices and my outlook on Society and its karma. For me this brand is about the message. The money is great but in all I wish to give the world another outlook on life as well as promote change around me. In the future I plan to give all of my friend and family an opportunity to display their message and outlooks in fashion as well. Since I’ve started my brand, I have had my mom, sister, and friends kick start their brands.
Has it been a smooth road?
The stardom of my brand has not been easy at all. It’s been a lot of learning and growing especially with my quality. A lot of the road so far has been a learning experience. As a whole I can say I’ve learned how to conduct business better as well as push the limits on creativity. Starting off everything was self-taught but, as time passed, I became more optimistic and open minded when it comes to creating in general. I have conquered a lot of obstacles but for me I feel like they were necessary to keep growing and to even get to where I’m at now.
Please tell us about your business.
TREUKaarmaa is a clothing brand mostly known for its eccentric style and the messages in the clothing. I can say I am most proud of how people receive my clothes. Starting out, my brand was just something to keep my friends stylish. As time went on it became a concept and a lifestyle for people. A lot of the time I’m surprised by the people who actually loves my clothing and has no age range. My parents and relatives often get mad at me when they don’t have some of the things I put out. I can say the most humbling feeling from all this is to know that I can actually live a great life from this as well as educate and promote change. I look at my brand as more than a clothing line or business, but as a lifestyle and responsibility to keep pushing forward. Karma is everywhere and it’s no escaping it so I figure at least let it be good karma.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta because it’s a growing hub for everything, especially creatives. Everybody in Atlanta knows somebody and this has helped my brand tremendously. Most of my sales come from word of mouth. People ask my friends all the time where they got certain pieces from and how to inquire about it. Although Atlanta has a wide range of opportunity, it can also be cramped. Originality is hard to come across and people will jump on the next wave just because items may be cheaper or can be clout based. As a whole it pushes me to work harder and to not be scared to try new things or methods.
