Meet Michael Potts of Stockbridge/McDonough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Potts.

Michael Potts

Hi Michael, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
How it all started… My grandfather (Cpl Smedley Potts) was the first black own barbershop located in downtown Columbus, GA. He was a military man and was the only black barber allowed to cut white officers hair on Fort Benning. I never met my grandfather but his DNA is in me and I believe I share similar traits and passion for barbering!

I started cutting hair professionally in the military (USMC) too. I am self taught and eventually went to school and completed hours to pass board test. With an entrepreneurship spirit and design training from SCAD, I created TRAPP CUTz LLC. TRAPP CUTz was born into a lifestyle of no-excuses to stay groomed! I provide grooming service in a private studio, barbershop or personal space (home or business).

“TRAPP” is an acronym for Tonsorial Razor Artist Providing Professional 💯

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a great journey but definitely not a smooth road! The main challenge is providing a space for private studio. Recently going through a divorce and lost occupancy to my pool house (converted to a private barbershop studio). I still travel and work out of the barbershop located in Stockbridge (BOLO’s)

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Perceptional Engineer and I am known for my professional work… either cutting hair, branding or creating a logo, painting, interior design or web development. I wear many hats that involve art & design. I am not just a Master Barber, I am your professional image consultant. I can be reached at 703.598.7483 for consultation.
