Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Quattrochi.
Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started by serving an apprenticeship under Howard Finkelstein of Obedience Please inc.. I then went on to serve as his head trainer. In 1976 I moved to The Atlanta area and opened The Educated Puppy. At first no one believed I could train 8 week old puppies. I took my trained puppies to many breed and obedience clubs and demonstrated just what my puppies could do. The result was I received many endorsements.
I ran a boarding school in Alpharetta for a total of 46 years. I now train dogs in my client’s homes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Along the way I trained many dogs for TV commercials, print adds and even Hollywood motion pictures. I even trained a dog for a Neil Simon film entitled The Slugger ‘s Wife. I’ve worked with Kenny Rodgers, Johnny Cash, Andy Griffith, Rebecca De mornay and Michael O’keffe among others.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Educated Puppy ?
I specialize in training young puppies. Most trainers don’t train 8 week old pups. I also train older dogs as well. Unlike most trainers who go to the dog’s home once or twice a week, I go to the client’s home five days a week to train their dog. I do not use slip or choke collars. I also don’t train with treats. I use positive behavior modification individualized to suit the dog’s personality. I provide my clients with a booklet geared towards application of the dog’s training to everyday situations that come up in their family’s life. Once the training is complete I offer my clients lifetime phone service.
Any big plans?
I look forward to training 3 to 4 puppies every month. The investment my clients make in their dog gives their dog and their family a secure, happy future. Nothing could be more rewarding to me.
