Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Li.
Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Somehow I have always been involved in the art world since a child, visiting museums and constantly creating. I started out with film photography in school and years later started taking digital photography seriously. I took a break while studying interior design, hoping to marry the two skills and focus on interior architecture photography. After school I traveled a bit and naturally met some awesome individuals who opened my eyes to both the world indoor and outdoor leading me to where I am now, capturing people in these beautiful environments.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been rough, twisted and full of potholes! I have been through failures and many new beginnings in both my professional and personal world. Anything from my equipment being stolen from my studio to taking on a big city all alone with my son trying to balance work and home.
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
My life has pretty much been a series of being at the wrong place at the right time and vice versa. I enjoy it. Even in bad situations, I know that with a little patience I will later find out why something happened. Missing a flight just to end up meeting an interesting soul with stories that affected me, or not landing a job I thought I wanted and once I let go of the disappointment almost immediately finding something better. I can’t say if anything that has happened to me has been a result of any kind of luck, but I know that surrounding myself with positive energy keeps me in the loop for good things to come. I do believe that.
Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
I like being able to say I don’t take on any projects I don’t believe in. I don’t work with someone just to get paid, I actually want to enjoy the process and smile when I get a great reaction. I pretend I’m on the other end, I’m the client or the consumer too when I’m working.
What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
I’ve lived in a few cities and there is no city like Atlanta. It keeps growing in the right way. I love our culinary culture and laid back attitude here. What I like least? We need more Acai bowls!
