Meet Miesha Hunter of La Soirée Chic Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miesha Hunter.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My sister and I were born into a family that loved to put on events and host parties. It has been an integral part of who we are as individuals. As little girls, we started out helping with making favors and custom baby and wedding books for family members and friends. Afterwards, we graduated to planning parties and events in high school. It would involve putting together the guest lists, helping to design the menu, and decor, all without knowing if there was a future in this business. It was just a passion we shared and it came naturally. When each moved to Georgia, we decided it could be a venture we could do together and then we decided to build La Soirée Chic Events.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With anything great, the road is never smooth. We have faced many challenges with establishing this business in an unfamiliar area. Born and bred in Long Island, NY, we had to adjust to the regional differences of Georgia’s southern hospitality and charm. We had to build this business from the ground up and find reliable vendors (friendors), which was no easy task. Along the way, we encountered quite a few unprofessional, unreliable ones. In gathering our footing, we noticed Atlanta’s event planning scene had a few cliques established in certain venue spaces and areas. Even with this challenge, we still take it in stride because we know the quality of our work. We don’t think there is a need to perpetuate the mean girl mentality to get ahead because there are more than enough clients and business to go around.

We are an event planning boutique specializing in well planned, coordinated, and designed elopements, weddings, social, and corporate affairs. We thrive on the belief you don’t have to invest a tremendous amount of money to pull of the event of your dreams. We are most proud of the intimate elopement packages we offer to our clients. We include venue space, an officiant, makeup, photography, and flowers for our brides at an awesome rate.

The most obvious thing that sets us apart is we are a duo. When we plan and execute events, we do them together. Our packages are designed with both our skill sets and it allows us to be in different areas without missing a beat. Often time, planners may solicit the help of amateur assistants, like a friend or family member who may not have adequate training. We are both educated in project management and use those tools to plan and manage our events.

What were you like growing up?
For me, I was naturally smart and I enjoyed school. My mother always told stories of how I would cry if I couldn’t do my homework. Lol, weird right? I like technology and learning about new things. I have always pegged myself as a self-learner and I naturally thrive in that arena.

My younger sister, Shavon, was the baby of the family and a brat. Since we were so close in age (a year and 2 days apart), we spent all of our time together. When I started kindergarten a year before she did, she would wear a book bag to walk me down to and pick me up from the bus stop. Shavon is more the visionary behind things. As a little girl, she found herself obsessing over outfits and shoes she’d dream about. Her senior year, she even designed her own prom dress.
