Meet Mikal Marcy of Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikal Marcy.

Hi Mikal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was an event planner before I even knew it! My journey began by hosting parties and holiday dinners for friends and family, which soon grew into themed tea parties for little girls’ birthdays and Valentine’s Teas for women’s groups. From there, I began volunteering with local non-profits, helping organize fundraising banquets and retreats, even some held overseas. Those experiences deepened my love for creating meaningful, memorable gatherings. Eventually, I joined an event management company, where I discovered the vibrant world of weddings. I was instantly captivated. I had found my purpose, the reason I was placed in this world. A few years later, I launched my own company, and I haven’t looked back since!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of challenges, from finding the courage to start my own business to learning how to balance creativity with the realities of running a company. In the early days, I said yes to almost everything, which often meant long hours, burnout, and learning the hard way on where to draw boundaries. There were seasons of doubt, slow bookings, and the occasional event that didn’t go quite as planned, but each experience taught me something valuable. Over time, I learned to trust my instincts, refine my processes, and build a business that truly reflects my values and the level of care I want to give my clients.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a wedding planner who specializes in creating authentic, beautifully curated celebrations that reflect each couple’s story. I believe a wedding should feel intentional, joyful, and true to who you are, not forced, not pretentious, and definitely not cookie-cutter.

I’m known for being a straight shooter and keeping things real. I like to have fun throughout the process, but I also take my role very seriously. My attention to detail and commitment to producing a seamless, successful event never wavers. I know this is one of the most important days (and seasons) in a family’s life, and I’m always deeply honored to be part of it.

I’m also known for my love for design and my obsession over a specialty, perfectly fitting linen. But also my timelines! They are thorough but not overbearing and keeps everyone calm, clear, and right on schedule. My goal is for couples and their families to feel supported and confident every step of the way so they can be fully present and enjoy their day.

What sets me apart is the balance I bring: creativity and structure, professionalism and warmth, honesty and heart. It’s that mix that allows me to plan with precision while keeping the joy and humanity at the center of it all.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is to prepare yourself for what it really takes on the back end of running a business. There’s so much more to it than the creative side — from choosing the right name and securing your domain to building a website and putting yourself out there with confidence. It can feel overwhelming at first, but every step teaches you something important.

Make connections and nurture them — networking and genuine relationships are absolutely key in this industry. Stay 100% true to yourself and learn your boundaries early on: what you’ll do, what you won’t, and how you want to show up for your clients. Know your worth and never apologize for who you are or what you stand for (unless, of course, you’ve truly made a mistake — then own it and learn from it).

And finally, don’t try to do it all alone. Seek out mentors, community, and support — people who will encourage you, guide you, and remind you why you started when things get hard.
