Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Rosenthal.
Mike, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My wife Courtney and I juggled the idea of starting our own business 5 or 6 years ago. I worked in retail management for some time and she had been working as a Veterinarian for a few years in Marietta. We have always been interested in welcoming people into our lives and wanted to do the same with our business. In order to change the status quo of the typical “Vet visit”, we knew we had to make some changes. First off, we had to find a great property where we could be comfortable to grow our business in. The building we purchased is historically persevered in Roswell and perfect for the vision we had. We created a warm inviting environment that mimics an old “Main Street” type feeling. Behind the scenes we are a full service animal hospital with advanced diagnostic technology. We have grown very quickly and have a well-established client base due to our most important asset, the customer service experience we provide.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had “ups and downs” throughout the last few years with financing. The large banks seemed very eager to give substantial loans when we started, especially SBA loans. After the first two years of business when we needed additional capital to expand they were not helpful. We had to turn to smaller banks with very high interest rates in order to expand or consolidate vendor debt. Personally, we have had strained finances and running a business with your spouse can always be a challenge. The most important obstacle to overcome is debt management.
Please tell us about Rose Animal Hospital.
Rose Animal Hospital is a full-service small animal hospital located in historic Roswell, Georgia. We provide a wide array of services for your pet: Preventive medicine, Emergency care, surgical procedures, Dental procedures, Alternative and complementary medicine including acupuncture, Digital radiography, In-clinic diagnostics, Luxury boarding, and Bathing. We are known for our incredible patient care and excellent customer service. As a company we are most proud of our loyal staff and retention and growth of business.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Courtney and I both loved visiting the Disney Parks as children and they have been very influential regarding our strategies.
