Meet Tawanda Sparks of The Millennial Mom Motivator in Riverdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tawanda Sparks.

Tawanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in a very small historic town called Tuskegee, Alabama. I grew up poor in a single parent home with my mom and three siblings. Throughout my entire childhood and most of my adulthood, I have experienced almost every struggle whether it was financially, physically, or emotionally.

My family and I have never been stable and have moved about thirty times as well as evicted several times. Time after time, we would find ourselves in the same situations repeatedly and it was very clear to me that this was a cycle. I became a mother at the age of 16 years old which didn’t make things any better. I am now the mother of two sons and a daughter. I found myself following the same cycle as my mother did during my adult years and made a promise to my children that I would break the generational curse of poverty and bondage. I made up in my mind that it was time to change how my life was going so I decided to relocate and start over.

In August 2015, I relocated to Georgia with very little faith, my children, and a few bags of clothes. I lived with a relative by marriage for five months until I was able to get my own place. I began to experience hardships here but I was determined to find my purpose and use it to help others. I researched a few groups dealing with credit and entrepreneurs and began to observe and learn all that I could. I came across a business coach who then had a great 12 month deal of coaching and I told her my story and that I did not know where to start and she said to me,” you will start by writing a book,” and that’s what I did. I was halfway done with my book when I entered a casting call for a docuseries, Women on The Rise Atlanta and was chosen to share part of my story.

Since meeting such great, positive, talented women, many doors have opened for me. I am now the Author of “Weeping Courage,” which shares my life struggles and how everything that was meant to destroy me failed! I have since built a brand around my book called “The Millennial Mom Motivator” where my goal is to motivate and inspire women just like myself through their faith, getting finances in order, and changing mindsets. I will also be featured on a docuseries Women on The Rise All Access where I share more of my story along with a group of amazing women. My motto as a Woman on The Rise is, “to change your mindset, is to change your life.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have endured unstableness, evictions, job terminations, repossessions, hunger, abuse of a lover emotionally and physically while pregnant.

The Millennial Mom Motivator – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My brand “The Millennial Mom Motivator,” is designed to motivate women who have gone through some of the things that I have, or is currently going through those things and need someone who understands them to walk through their storms with them. My goal is to share and use my story and use the lessons that I have learned to travel a better road.

What sets me apart from others is my strength, courage, and my boldness. There are not many who could have faced the challenges that I did without giving up. I have proven over and over again that I am indestructible!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career is the day I actually completed writing my book and submitted it to the editor. I knew there was no turning around at that point. In the past, I procrastinated a lot and I would start something and not finish but this time, I was my own motivation and I completed a huge goal.
