Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Hoffmann.
Miriam, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Art has always been a passion of mine. I received my first camera as a Christmas present about 10 years ago and instantly fell in love. I photographed everything I could get my hands on and experimented with just about every style of photography there was. About 5 years ago I took up painting and it changed the way I saw light completely – my whole approach to art changed. When I became pregnant with my first daughter, I stopped painting because of all of the fumes (oil paints) and picked up the camera again for the first time in a few years. This time around I approached photography the same way I did my paintbrush.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having three small girls (5-month-old identical twins + a 2-year-old) means there are no smooth roads around here! Its a balancing act for sure. On the weekends I wake up early – photographing my first clients before the kids wake up or waiting until their first nap of the day. I come home, spend the day with my girls and then stay up late editing photos. When Monday morning comes along, I get up and head to my 9-5 full-time desk job.
When I get home its time to cook the girls dinner, put them to bed, and then continue working on photos. My husband is my biggest supporter and I wouldn’t be able to do it without him. Its a crazy and fulfilling life for sure!
Please tell us about Miriam Hoffmann Photography.
I run a photography business that specializes in family and newborn photography. People know me for my unique mix of classic and lifestyle portraiture. I’d describe my style as timeless and authentic. I take the kind of photos that I’d like to see hanging on my wall – mothers kissing baby’s toes, grandma singing lullabies, and dad chasing after little ones. I have three young children, so I understand the chaos and embrace it!
My clients love that I give them all the time they need and capture the moments as they truly happen. As a company, I’m most proud of placing top 100 for family portraiture in this year’s worldwide Shoot and Share contest. (https://shootandshare.com/photo/2018/159296/10210894303301473/photos/)
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory is going to Disney World with my parents. They surprised one day after breakfast and asked what I wanted to do that day. After telling them that I wanted to build a puzzle, they said they wanted to go to Disney World. Little did I know that they had already packed the car and our tickets were booked. 15 minutes later we were driving to the airport on our way to Florida. It was such a magical time and I can’t wait to take my 3 girls there for the first time.
