So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My musical journey began at the early age of eight in Jacksonville, Florida through my performing arts elementary school. Starting in the band playing the trumpet to vocal music and theatre, I eventually became exposed to the techniques of audio engineering at the age of nine at The Potters House International Ministry through my father who is one of the lead audio engineers for the Audio ministry. From elementary went to attend the only performing arts middle school, LaVilla School of the Arts located downtown Springfield area of Jacksonville. From the 3rd to the 8th grade, was my years of expanding reading of sheet music, chord developments and major and minor keys significance, also beginning stages of singing and reading in foreign languages such as Italian, German, Spanish, and Latin.
From LaVilla School of the Arts to Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, two years Grammy Award-winning high school in Florida, I studied vocal music. As I progressed into my sophomore year of high school, my knowledge of audio engineering expanded by learning software such as Logic, ProTools 10, and Sibelius. I assisted with the production and distribution of the yearly student independent album that was put together for funding to the recording department. Throughout my high school career, I performed a variety of collegiate level District and State festivals, annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Jacksonville Landing and Christmas festivities at Walt Disney World. I also took master classes from prestigious composers around the country. I give back to my community by going back to my previous schools with helping them prepare with their music and performances.
Graduating high school, I didn’t know where I wanted to go for college. My mind was set on Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton but after getting deferred, I realized my heart was in Atlanta. I always wanted to go to an HBCU especially since my sisters that have attended college before me, never went. After applying and auditioning as a vocal music major on scholarship, I was accepted. Yet I knew I didn’t want to sing anymore but I still was deeply interested in music and the music industry, I became hooked on the Mass Media department and having a concentration in Radio was the closest thing for me to work on a soundboard again.
From 2016, I gained membership into WSTU Radio organization, the student ran radio platform for the Clark Atlanta, Morehouse, and Spelman, and began my radio show, The Goodfellas, Florida based show with good vibes only. My position for the radio show consists of sound production and music director. The Goodfellas are known on campus for hosting conversation that everyone wants to have but too scared to really discuss, I open the format for open discussion, bringing in the legends such as Drumma Boy and Buddha Bless This Beat, as well as releasing on the rise stars hit tracks such as on April 11, 2017 premiering Miami Native Ball Greezy and Lil Dread’s “Nice and Slow”. Being in Atlanta and with the drive I have, it introduced me to a lot of heavy hitters in the industry from radio to the nightlife as well as the music industry. My first opportunity working in the music industry was assisting @PropaneMedia with rapper Young Greatness project release party for “Bloody Summers”.
After returning from my study abroad trip from Jamaica with the Mass Media department at Clark Atlanta, led by Professor James McJunkins, I applied to be the public relations intern for All Urban Central, the #1 black-owned media business from Clark Atlanta and Morehouse alumni. I’ve had the opportunity to help assist CAU Alumna, Niya Skyy, founder of Skyy Level Media and Urban Promotions of Empire Records, with the DJ listening party for Philthy Rich and as her social media intern with UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball in 2018. But my journey is still continuing…
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Hell no, there’s been times when wanting to give up, reset and start all over, and just do something else. You WILL get denied, you WILL get fired, and you WILL have to go through situations that’ll help you mature as an adult and in the industry you’re trying to pursue in.
Please tell us about Miss Tianna E.
Miss Tianna E. is a BRAND. I specialize mainly in media and public relations, I’m equipped to cover an event, deliver a recap, edited myself, as well as booking others for the events and composing one-sheets and press kits. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing muses and shooting content for their social media platforms such as Instagram. I’m most proud of how it doesn’t matter who all knows my name, I know a lot of important figures in the game knows it. I’ve been known for my social butterfly ways and thats what makes me the dot connector because I’ve been able to connect people of one friend group to another so they can expand their ideas. My drive, ambition, and honesty are what makes me different from the rest.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Listen more. Don’t be so quick to react, especially with emotion. A lot of the times, people are telling you exactly what you either needed to hear or how they’ve been feeling from the jump. And to LAUGH at the bull. Even when it feels like you won’t make it through, you definitely will.
