Meet Monica Garcia Bradley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Garcia Bradley.

Monica, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a passion for performing, for as long as I can remember! My mom put me in dance classes at the age of four in the hopes it would wear me out, as I was a tireless child. Dance however, only energized me more and increased my love for performing. Early on I became a competitive dancer, and eventually found my way to the musical theatre world, where I learned to sing and act as well. After living in New York City for almost six years as a stage performer, I was offered a role in the feature film ‘Killer Unicorn.’ This delightfully campy horror film helped launch my on camera career that consists of network television shows, feature films and commercials.

Has it been a smooth road?
The life of an artist can be anything but an easy one. But I choose to be here, and give it my everything. I’ve had seasons of wins and losses, and times where I didn’t get to be an actor at all. But through it all, I kept working hard and remained my most authentic self. I can sit back now, connect the dots and see how every hurdle became a milestone at some point down the road. If you’re passionate, stick with it.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m grateful to say that I live as a full time artist in Atlanta, and I’ve learned so much from the producers and directors I’ve worked with. I would love to remain known as an actor who works on socially conscious films that make a difference, by giving people a voice in a world where they are silenced. My projects over the past couple of years have included movements with #metoo, Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ community. I think as an artist, it’s important to use our platform for things we believe in as much as we can.

In between acting engagements, I teach dance, acting and vocal classes at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and Decatur School of Ballet. They are two great schools that are eager to grow Atlanta’s thriving performing arts scene. I also travel throughout the year with my partner, Danny Bevins, to various colleges teaching master classes and intensives. You can find up to date information about summer classes and camps on my website www.monicagarciabradley.com.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta has worked really hard to become a competitive name in the entertainment industry, and I believe that name will continue to grow in the coming years. More professionals from LA and New York are moving here every year, and the projects are increasing as a result. I think it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle in bigger cities, but Atlanta is more intimate, so it’s easier to be remembered. I have been encouraging a lot of my friends to consider moving here, and I look forward to the evolution of the film community in Atlanta.
