Today we’d like to introduce you to MonTravious “Trae” Howard, Kourtney Jackson, and Daniel Martin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our business venture started with three friends/fraternity brothers’ love of smoking hookah. Whenever we would have parties or events mutual friends of ours would ask, “Which one between Trae, Kourtney, or Dan is bringing the hookah?” It became a running joke amongst our circle of friends that we loved hookah so much that we should start a business. It made sense to us because we always would experiment on mixing flavors and getting together to compare notes on who’s creation was the best. After giving it some considerable start, we decided to pursue that vision at some point without knowing exactly when.
Sometime later, the Young Alumni Committee of the Alpharetta Smyrna alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. planned to host a homecoming party for Kennesaw State University in 2017. They wanted to create a different experience for this homecoming party so they reached out to a mobile hookah vendor in metro Atlanta for their services that evening. The vendor expressed that they were available and booking fees and a contract was reached and agreed upon. As the date approached, the committee reached out to the vendor only to find out that they were no longer available to do the event. This obviously put the committee in a bind as flyers already advertised that hookah would be available at the party. That is when the three brothers received our first opportunity to put our vision into motion. With very little time, we purchased several hookahs, shisha, and supplies. On short notice, we worked the event and the turnout was amazing. The feedback we received was incredible and from that, we knew that this vision would be a reality.
Today, we look back and all agree that what we thought was a disaster, was actually a blessing in disguise. If not for that vendor canceling at the last minute, who knows when, or if we would’ve pursued our business venture. We appreciate all of the fortunate bookings and events we have performed at this point and will continue to provide an excellent customer experience as Kloud Kings ATL, LLC.
Has it been a smooth road?
Unfortunately, it has not always been a smooth road for us. Like any small business startup, there are high risks and low rewards. It took us a while before getting into the “black” with our business. Some of our biggest obstacles are competition, marketing, and clientele. We are working towards tackling those obstacles and feel like we are getting closer to achieving those goals every day.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kloud Kings ATL LLC story. Tell us more about it.
Kloud Kings ATL, LLC is one the premier mobile hookah vendors in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The great thing about our business is that we come to provide our services to the customer. We have the flexibility to move about without having to be tied down to a physical location. Contrary to popular belief, people love the comfort of smoking hookah in their homes and private events. We have done homecoming parties, birthday parties, pool parties, anniversary parties, Atlanta Greek Picnic Block Party, Greek parties, concert events, throwback parties, and as of right now we’re booked to do our first wedding!
We specialize in our unique hookah flavors and our fruit bowls. We have received rave reviews on both of these products. Our customers can’t get enough of our specially blended flavors and we even have video evidence of that!
We pride ourselves on EXCELLENT customer service. We can proudly say that we have never canceled on a client no matter how big or small the event was. We have even traveled outside the Atlanta metropolitan area to provide our services for smaller cities in the state of Georgia. We hope that by doing so shows any and all future clients that we are dedicated to giving them the best hookah experience of their lives. That is our goal.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We personally see our industry growing over the next 5-10 years as smoking cigarettes is more of an “older” way of smoking. Nowadays you have vaping (hookah pens), hookah lounges, clubs that serve hookah, etc. You’ve never seen a “cigarette lounge” before! This generation we see today is more open to new things and change. They are also influenced by the hip hop culture who has embraced the hookah experience. Like all things, there are times when certain things are deemed popular and eventually die out, but with this trend, it’s only getting better and more creative!
