Meet Morgan Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Taylor Woods.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I like to say to say that I consider myself an Olympian. This is because I was born in 1996, which is the year the Olympics came to Atlanta. Since birth I have always had the passion for performance. I’ve been told that when I was in my mother’s womb, that she could feel me dancing when she played music. I can remember being at my grandmother’s house as young child; and I would see her listen to music, dance and sing around the house which motivated to dance. Dance has always been in my body and soul. At the age of nine I automatically knew that I wanted to be a dancer. Throughout my childhood, middle school and high school years, I was afforded a tremendous amount of opportunities to dance in a variety of performances. Some achievements that I am most proud of include being selected for the Governor’s Honors and to represent the NAACP Georgia chapter in Las Vegas and Philadelphia for their National Conference.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has not always been easy and I definitely havehad my shares of challenges and struggles. At the age of 5, I was diagnosed with disability of ADHD. This caused me to struggle academically with math and English. Even though the teachers were aware of my disability, they still doubted me and did not even believe that I would finish high school or attend college. I once had one of the teachers say to me “you don’t know that math but you sure know that dance”. The assistant principal made a comment to my mother that I would not complete high school or attend college and to look for another career path. My mother always told me “God has the last say so of everything you do in life. Believe in him and you will overcome”. If I did not have my mother (Sharon), Warren (brother), Jesse (uncle) dance instructors – (Iris Good-Edmond, Dr. Tiffany Mingo and Theresa Mingo) as my supporters, I would had not have succeed with finishing high school with honors. On April 30, 2019, I graduated college (New World School of the Arts/University of Florida with Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with honors.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Since graduating from college, I have returned back to Atlanta to share my knowledge of training that I received from New World School of the Art with students that would like to continue their goal in performance arts.

I am currently teaching at “I AM Arts PerformingCompany” under the umbrella of Dr. Tiffany Mingo and Theresa Mingo. I also signed with talent agency “Alima Industries & Studioninetytwo” where I am booked as a model. I am looking forward to what the universe has in store for me and the many challenges I will overcome. Right now, I am focus on building my brand as a dancer and model. My goal is to become a house hold name within the industry. One day I will open my own dance and acting company that would allow kids that has disabilities to accomplish their dreams.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is most definitely dancing and singing for hours with my little cousin and my brother. We really thought we were Destiny’s Child…..LOL. We would rehearse, learn the lyrics to their songs, practice poses and put on shows for our family. I believe these moments also prepared me to be a performer. These childhood moments were the most blissful!.
