Meet Morris Lucas, Owner and Program Director of Mobetta Media/Artist Spotlight in Gwinnett County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morris Lucas, Owner and Program Director of Mobetta Media/Artist Spotlight.

Morris, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Started having workshops in Dallas, TX Microsoft Stores, inviting music producers, record label executives and film people to come and speak. People loved seeing and talking to people up close and networking. When Atlanta started to get more and more film and TV projects, decided to move back to Atlanta in 2016 and ride the wave. Did 12 or so more events in Atlanta Microsoft Stores, as well as mini-expos in venues such as Georgia Tech.

I also began working with high schools and summer camps, setting up classes and skype workshops in Gwinnett, College Park and other counties in Atlanta.

The immediate goal is to have a larger event in Summer 2020 encompassing film, tv, music, tech and e-sports industries to serve the Atlanta audience of newcomers and creative people looking to enter the creative or media industry.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely struggle to finance the production, video coverage, social media to promote, gaining the trust of the professionals to come and speak for us and getting the message out about the events. Not to mention the technical difficulties of having a high-level speaker not being able to hear or speak because of a horrible internet connection live in front of dozens of people!

Also, trying to fund the classes for the summer camps, high school students who want to participate in the classes but who may not be able to afford the content, as we try to serve the underprivileged communities of students.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
Basically try to provide the most raw, transparent information on careers in various areas of the media and creative industries in the most intimate setting as possible. This can include all areas from screenwriting to photography, comic-book art to music production and all in between.

The close, intimate networking of seasoned pros to every level of no experience to those already in the field is what sets us apart. We try not to be a “conference” but an up close and personal conversation where you may actually get a contact, or even an internship or job!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Looking to partner with those that can partner to give the platform more exposure and more outlets to get the word out about what we do.

Have more internet content, as well as a bigger cumulative event/workshop in Summer 2020 where you will have live presentations, one-on-one interactions, as well as several specific niche classes over a 2-day event.

Continue to work with the school community to expose the jobs, interns, and benefits of film/.tv and video game industry training.
