Today we’d like to introduce you to Moss Robertson.
Moss decided against retirement in 2013. After closing his successful family business of 30 years, Moss Robertson Cadillac-Mazda in Gainesville, Robertson was looking for a way to combine his personal interest in health and fitness with a new family enterprise. He found exactly what he was looking for in a national brand that was new on the scene, The Exercise Coach. Based on cutting edge exercise science and data-driven technology, The Exercise Coach was just the business endeavor that Moss was looking for.
“This business model gave us the opportunity to literally be able to change people’s lives for the better, regardless of age. That was the biggest value to me. That’s what makes me so enthusiastic about it.”
Exercise Coach on East Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead was Robertson’s first local franchise. A few months later, his daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Jason Sanders, opened a second location in Johns Creek. Now the family has expanded the business to include two more locations, Sandy Springs and Roswell. The family, as the exclusive franchisees for the Atlanta area, plans at least four more locations.
“It’s wonderful to be able to do this as a family,” says Moss.
A wake up call
During the time that Moss was considering his options for a new family business, he had a wake-up call with his own health. He was shocked to be diagnosed as pre-diabetic. As a former athlete who was still continuing to run and exercise well into his late fifties, Moss did not have a weight problem, and ate what he considered to be a healthy diet. With his subsequent discovery of The Exercise Coach, Moss decided to try it out for his own health’s sake. He followed The Exercise Coach’s program of two strength training workouts per week, each lasting for just twenty minutes, followed by a short session of cardio conditioning. Together with the program’s nutritional component, The Exercise Coach offered Moss a whole new lifestyle that turned his own health situation around.
Moss now feels stronger and healthier than ever before, and was told by his somewhat surprised physician, “I don’t know what you’re doing, but you need to keep it up because your diabetes risk is now being controlled.”
The experience convinced him wholeheartedly to invest in The Exercise Coach as a franchisee. “I’m a real-life example. I stopped doing everything that I had done before and started doing this program and now I’m in the best shape of my life. It’s now a part of our family’s lives.”
A little more about the business
The Exercise Coach was founded in 2000 by personal training expert Brian Cygan. It uses patented exercise technology that requires clients to work out only twice a week for 20 minutes each session. The secret to the program’s effectiveness is its focus on Muscle Quality over Movement Quantity. The notion of “just get moving” just doesn’t work. The latest evidence in exercise science shows that prolonging workouts will only affect the effort with no additional benefit to muscle development or fat loss, and may even become counterproductive.
Strength training, customized to each client’s level of ability, is what The Exercise Coach calls Right Intensity Training™. Each session is designed to increase muscle tone, burn fat, and help the body make important metabolic changes. It’s an ideal workout for people of all ages, but it is particularly appealing to the “unlikely exerciser” who may be too busy for long workouts several times a week, who doesn’t like the gym scene, or who hasn’t exercised in a while. Personal attention is key. All sessions are conducted with an experienced coach, either one-on-one or in small groups, in streamlined and comfortable studios with a boutique feel. In addition, The Exercise Coach offers nutritional advice as part of the program. There are no long-term contracts required, and two complimentary sessions are available to anyone who wants to try it out to see if it’s the right exercise program for them.
“This is the next big wave in the fitness industry,” says Moss. “It’s the nation’s smartest workout. We have people tell us how much we’ve helped them. When you combine our strength training program with the nutritional component, you’re going to reach optimum health. Our only reason for being here is to get results for our clients. And as a family, we’re here to change people’s lives.”
Moss is a home-grown, ITP, native Atlantan. He attended Grady High School and Georgia State University, and currently resides in Brookhaven with his wife, Tricia, and their son, Moss III.
