Meet Mr & Mrs Andre Thomas of ART INSURANCE FAMILY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mr & Mrs Andre Thomas.

Mr & Mrs Andre, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Andre and I first stepped into the insurance world in November 2013, right at the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. We began working as customer service representatives with Connect for Health Colorado, part of the state’s Health Insurance Exchange. Those early years gave us hands-on experience helping individuals and families navigate new healthcare options, and it sparked our passion for serving people through insurance.

In April 2016, I earned my license to sell Life and Health Insurance, which allowed me to take the next step in guiding clients beyond customer service into tailored coverage solutions. In 2017, we moved from Colorado to Georgia, where I expanded my expertise by earning my Property and Casualty license in 2018 while working for a State Farm agency. That role gave me a strong foundation in both personal and commercial lines of insurance.

By 2020, Andre obtained his license as well, and together we worked at a local independent agency for about a year. That experience gave us the confidence and vision to step out on our own. We launched ART Insurance Family, an independent agency built on integrity, education, and service.

Today, we write all lines of insurance—Home, Auto, Life & Health, and Commercial. Over time, we’ve grown a strong focus on Commercial Trucking Insurance, an area where we’ve built lasting relationships and deep expertise. Truckers are the heartbeat of America, keeping our nation’s goods moving, and it’s our mission to make sure they’re protected every mile of the way.

From our start in Colorado’s healthcare exchange to running a full-service agency in Georgia, our journey has been one of growth, resilience, and commitment. At ART Insurance Family, we treat every client like family while protecting what matters most—because that’s what we believe insurance should be about.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, we’ve faced our share of challenges along the way. Early on, the biggest struggle was simply getting started—learning the ins and outs of the insurance industry while balancing the responsibilities of work, family, and life in a new state after moving from Colorado to Georgia.

When we decided to open our own agency, we quickly realized that running a business is very different from just working in the industry. We had to wear many hats at once—from marketing and networking to compliance and customer service. Building a book of business from scratch wasn’t easy, especially in a competitive field where trust is everything.

There were also financial hurdles. We invested our own time, money, and energy into launching ART Insurance Family, and there were moments when things felt uncertain. But every challenge became a learning experience. Instead of discouraging us, it pushed us to get better, stay focused, and lean on each other’s strengths.

Another challenge was finding our niche. At first, we wrote all types of policies, but over time, we realized that specializing in Commercial Trucking Insurance allowed us to truly stand out and make an impact. Trucking is a demanding industry, and truckers need an agency that not only understands their unique risks but also cares about their livelihood. That focus has been key to our growth and success.

Looking back, the road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been worth it. Every obstacle has shaped us into stronger business owners, better problem-solvers, and more compassionate advisors to our clients.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about ART INSURANCE FAMILY?
At ART Insurance Family, we are a full-service independent agency offering Home, Auto, Life & Health, and Commercial Insurance. What sets us apart—and what we’re most known for—is our specialization in Commercial Trucking Insurance. We work closely with trucking professionals, from owner-operators to fleet owners, ensuring they have the coverage, compliance, and peace of mind they need to keep their businesses running smoothly.

What makes us different is that we don’t treat insurance like a transaction. We treat it like a relationship. Our clients know us by name, and we know their stories, goals, and concerns. We take the time to educate them, answer questions, and build policies that fit—not just sell them something off the shelf.

Brand-wise, we’re proud that “Family” isn’t just part of our name—it’s part of our culture. We believe in protecting what matters most, whether that’s a family’s first home, a business owner’s dream, or a truck driver’s livelihood.

For readers, we want you to know that with ART Insurance Family, you’re not just buying a policy—you’re gaining a partner who genuinely cares about your success and security.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Our advice would be to be patient and stay consistent. When we first started, it was easy to feel discouraged if things didn’t move as quickly as we hoped. Building a business takes time, and in insurance especially, success comes from building trust—and that doesn’t happen overnight.

One thing we wish we knew earlier was the power of finding your niche. At the beginning, we tried to cover everything for everyone. Over time, we realized that specializing—particularly in Commercial Trucking Insurance—allowed us to stand out, grow faster, and truly become experts in an area where our clients needed us most.

We’d also tell anyone starting out to invest in yourself and your network. Keep learning, seek out mentors, and surround yourself with people who support and challenge you. Don’t be afraid of mistakes—they’re part of the process.

Most importantly, know your “why.” There will be tough days, and sometimes you’ll question if you’re on the right path. What carried us through those times was remembering why we started: to help families, protect businesses, and create a legacy together. When your purpose is bigger than just money, it gives you the drive to push through challenges and celebrate the wins even more.
