Today we’d like to introduce you to Muriel Ribeiro.
Muriel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from Brazil and I come to Atlanta to teach Capoeira. My first class was in the University of California and I loved USA so I decided to move to Atlanta.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When you are an immigrant and does not know the language is not easy to start a business, but I did it.
Please tell us about Cordao de Ouro Atlanta.
Capoeira is a Brazilian Martial art created in Brazil by Slaves. Capoeira is composed of music, culture, philosophy, and movement. The movements consist of kicks, escapes, cartwheels, and flips. We are specialized in Martial Art concept, self-defense and acrobatics. CAPOEIRA has been teaching people how to defend themselves and find the balance to a better life… Our mission is to provide opportunities to all people that inspire lifelong learning and empowerment for the improvement of a more equal, just, and healthy society.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
