Meet Muse of Marietta, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Muse.

Hi Muse, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started when my younger brother and I went to get a tattoo together. At the time, I was living in Miami and had been joking—though secretly serious—about wanting to become a tattoo artist. You know when you say something as a joke, but deep down you mean it? That was me.

We walked into a tattoo shop and got a quote for the design we wanted. The price was fair—but then it hit me. That same amount could buy a beginner tattoo machine kit I had seen online. Right then, I turned to my brother and said, “Give me a couple of months, and I’ll do the tattoo for you myself.” We walked out (sorry to that shop!), and the next day I bought my very first tattoo machine.

From there, I started practicing nonstop—on fake skin, oranges, anything I could get my hands on. Eventually, my youngest brother volunteered to be my first real client. That’s where it all began.
Not long after, I moved to Georgia while still working my day job. I started telling people at work that I did tattoos, and before long, I had my first few clients coming through my apartment. But I knew I wanted to grow and learn more, so I began visiting tattoo shops, showing my small portfolio, and looking for an apprenticeship.

I eventually landed one at a shop in Stone Mountain, where I started developing new skills and learning from other artists. Still, I wanted to push myself further and experience a high-volume shop environment. A fellow artist told me about a shop that had an opening, so I jumped on the opportunity.
That shop changed everything. I got my first real exposure to the professional tattoo world, attended my first convention, and met tons of people who inspired me. But my growth didn’t stop there. After some time, I moved on to another busy shop where I was able to refine my technique, experiment with new styles, and build an even stronger client base.

Eventually, I reached a crossroads. I wanted to find a shop environment where I felt safe, inspired, and surrounded by artists I could learn from—but life had other plans. I had clients reaching out, but no space to tattoo. Then I came across salon suites. At first, I didn’t think I could afford to be on my own, but I filled out the application anyway.

After speaking with the building owner, he decided to take a chance on me—making me the first tattoo artist to lease a suite in his building. I was nervous, but I got all my paperwork and inspections in order, and in August 2025, The Painted Muse Tattoo Studio officially opened its doors.

Since then, I’ve been proudly running my own studio, continuing to grow, learn, and share my art with every client who sits in my chair.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve always believed that if the road on your journey is perfectly smooth, you’ve missed the chance to shape it into your own unique story. The bumps and obstacles are what give your path character—and they’ve certainly given mine plenty.

One of my biggest challenges has been confidence, especially when it comes to promoting myself and sharing the kind of tattoos I really want to do. Even now, there are moments when I hesitate, wondering if my work will be “good enough.” But I’ve learned to remind myself that the worst thing that can happen is that some people won’t connect with my art—and that’s okay. There are billions of people in the world, and it only takes one person who believes in your vision. I like those odds.

Another challenge I’ve faced in this industry is navigating ego—both my own and others’. To be a tattoo artist, you need confidence: in your art, in your process, and in the way you carry yourself. But it’s not always easy to work through the dynamics that come with strong personalities. As a woman—specifically a Black woman—in a space that’s often male-dominated, I’ve had to stand my ground and find my voice. Some of those experiences were difficult, but I’m also incredibly grateful for the men in this industry who have shown me respect, offered guidance, and shared knowledge that helped me grow.

Being a Black female artist in tattooing hasn’t been the easiest road, but being near Atlanta has been a blessing. There’s a community of talented Black women tattoo artists here, and meeting them has inspired me to keep going. Seeing their success reminds me that my dreams are valid and that I, too, can leave my mark on this industry.

At the end of the day, not every client and experience will be easy, and not every tattoo will go perfectly—but I show up every day striving to make each person who sits in my chair feel comfortable, valued, and proud of the art they leave with. Every challenge I’ve faced has only made me more determined, more focused, and more confident in the artist—and the woman—I’m becoming.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a tattoo artist whose work blends fine line, realism, and color to create pieces that feel both expressive and intentional. Recently, I’ve been exploring body contouring and symmetrical tattoo designs—styles that enhance the natural shape and flow of the body. It’s an area I’m excited to dive deeper into as I continue to evolve artistically.

What truly sets me apart is the way I approach collaboration. I see each tattoo as a partnership between my vision and my client’s. My goal is always to bring their ideas to life while adding my own creative touch—something unique that feels personal and one-of-a-kind. More than anything, I want every client to walk away feeling seen, confident, and proud of the art they’re wearing.

Any big plans?
My future looks like steady, intentional growth. I want to refine my new studio and build something that stands the test of time. Artistically, I plan to keep exploring new tattoo styles that inspire me and eventually return to collaborating with other amazing artists.

More than anything, I want to remain flexible. In a world full of uncertainty, it’s easy to lose focus—but my goal is to stay grounded while staying open to change. I want to keep evolving, both as an artist and as a business owner, continuing to grow toward the vision I’m creating for myself and my art.
