Meet Myah Jackson of The Zeal Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myah Jackson.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was 15, I decided I wanted to become a fashion journalist. It seemed to be the obvious route as I fell in love with writing and the world of fashion at that time. I made that my mission and attended SCAD Atlanta and graduated in 2016 with a BFA in Writing and focus in Fashion Marketing.

It was during my time in college that I began to evolve in my purpose, not only as a writer but as a young black woman in this era of time. I asked the questions, why am I here? What legacy do I want leave? For me in order to achieve my purpose, I needed the power over my craft of writing. I needed the freedom to tell the stories I want to tell. With that, I started The Zeal Life in 2016.

The Zeal Life initially started as a lifestyle blog but has evolved into a fashion publication with the purpose of amplifying the visibility of marginalized groups in fashion, culture and art.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all, building a brand is hard. If you’re doing it with the best intentions, it requires vulnerability. I’m sharing my creativity, my experiences, opinions, my art with the world. It comes with a roller coaster of emotions. It’s through this journey I’ve learned resilience and the importance of staying true to myself and my mission despite the challenges.

The struggles are inevitable. They come in several forms, but I try to see them as growing pains rather than setbacks.

Please tell us about The Zeal Life.
The Zeal Life’s mission is to amplify the visibility of marginalized groups in fashion, culture and art. The Zeal Life is not just another fashion platform, but a source for honest critique of the culture from the perspective of a black queer woman. My fashion editorials are what I’m most known for and what I’m most proud of. They are aligned with my values and tell stories that mainstream culture don’t tell too often—not through this medium anyway.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a bit of a free spirit. I loved to write plays and act out scenarios— my first love was acting. I wanted to be an actor as a kid. Obviously grew out of that, but I’m sure the universe will reunite us one day.

I was a tomboy who still loved nail polish, getting my hair done and lip gloss. I was wise, stubborn—probably a know it all. Now that I’m writing this out, I’m the same person! Just a little taller and more evolved.
