Today we’d like to introduce you to Myesha Stinson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Myesha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Myesha Stinson, ATL native 28 years old. I got into cooking and baking at the age of seven years old. Every year for Christmas, I was that little girl who asked for an easy bake oven. I would make mini cakes and cupcakes in my oven. Along with mini grilled cheese sandwich lol. Growing up, I was always in the kitchen helping my mom cook Sunday dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas dinner, and more. I was also a picky eater growing up, so I had to learn how to cook soon! I also got my inspiration from my grandmother, back in the day her and my aunts had their own restaurant. I come from a family where cooking is what brought is together.
Once I graduate from high school, I tried college out, finding out it really wasn’t for me. I took some time off and decided to go to Culinary Art school at Atlanta Technical College, where I got my degree at. I graduated in 2015 and started my cupcake business from there. Katiecupcakes has been around since then. But as we all know running a business isn’t a walk in the park. I absolutely LOVE cooking and Baking. To make people happy through food is my all-time passion. Cooking is so therapeutic and calming for me. One day I desire to open up my own Cafe where I can allow my gift to put a smile on peoples face with a full belly lol.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. I struggle with deciding if this was really for me at first because being in the Food industry is very competitive. There were time where I wanted to give up on my business. Again for me it’s not about the money. I’m truly passionate about my craft. With so many Bakers here in ATL, it can be hard to convince a client why they should pick you to create a beautiful masterpiece for them. Working full time and trying to still focus on my business isn’t always easy. But the beauty of it is all the supportive people I have rooting me on.
We’d love to hear more about Katie Cupcakes.
So I specialize in all treats, from cupcakes, cookies, brownies, chocolate cover strawberries, cakes, pies. I try just about anything and if its a hit, I add it to my menu. I’m known for my top seller, which is my Strawberry white chocolate brownies, they are so yummy. I’m proud of my growth from when I first started till now. My craft has gotten better over the time, and I continue to work on it. I’m still learning from so many Dope ATL bakers like KoyaKre8tions, KayysKupcakes, OvenTreats and Gabby’s Candy Coated Confectioners.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future goal is to one day open up a Cafe that serves amazing Southern Cuisine and a full Bakery. I want to also get into teaching one on one cooking classes. I’m working on my YouTube channel and I’ve written a recipe E-book and plan to write a cookbook as well.
