Meet Myisha Antonette of Like A Lady in Fayetteville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myisha Antonette.

Myisha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
November 19, 2017 is the day my life changed forever… a day I can remember so vividly. This was the day I met grief head on. The day I lost my father. Experiencing this trauma was the most difficult journey of my life. However, while dealing with my loss, there weren’t any support groups to guide me through what I was feeling or how to feel. I was numb for so long afterwards. After a year, I began battling with situational depression and anxiety. I was scared, this was so new to me. I needed help. Seeing as though I didn’t see that support that I needed, I decided I’ll fix that. My business is geared towards black women because we are taught to always be strong. And in the black community, we don’t discuss loss and the grief that results from it. I just knew I wasn’t alone in my feelings and I wanted other women to know they aren’t either.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not!! Dealing with a loss is emotional in itself. Building a business while grieving is a complete struggle. Learning how to show up for myself emotionally and mentally in order for me to show up for others. I had to realize I can’t be a broken tool. I have to take care of myself in order to be there and motivate others. Dealing with depression and anxiety leaves me feeling lonely and completely empty. There are days where I don’t want to do anything or be around anyone. When I’m feeling this way, I then feel like I’m not doing enough for my business. So, learning how to cope with grief while being there for others is something I’m working on.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Like A Lady story. Tell us more about it.
Like A Lady is an experience. This is a business that is set apart from many. I assist black women on how to flourish in life emotionally and mentally after loss. Too often, we don’t bring forth the discussion about grief and how it truly affects our lives as a whole. I also speak about life experiences and self-development. Because no matter the adversities we experience in life, we must stand tall, head held high, heels even higher and overcome them Like A Lady.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see myself forming a movement, a true experience. I want to bring forth that safe space for black women to learn how to become vulnerable without judgment. I want my brand to teach how to have the capacity to show up for yourself. With my brand, I plan to become a motivational speaker and travel to open the conversation on grief and how it can be dealt with to better ourselves. I will continue with my blog as well as adding vlog posts to bring this to light. I will be adding merchandise very soon as well!
