Meet Myriah Sparks of The Closet Whisperer Style in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myriah Sparks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Myriah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Atlanta and raised in Lithonia, GA. I have always loved the art of fashion and style and how it makes you feel good when you look good. As a southern city girl born and raised in East Atlanta, I had that down south fashion exposure (which was limited), but prominent in the culture. It wasn’t until I attended Howard University, where I was exposed to the art of style expression. I didn’t begin to really embrace MY style until my senior year of college.

When I discovered my favorite store Zara, I realized I didn’t want to dress exactly like everyone else, but I could appreciate being inspired by others. My friends would always tell me I should put my talents into fashion and styling because of how much I loved to shop, but I didn’t listen immediately due to fear. It wasn’t until I took my first international trip to Europe and I visited Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain that I decided to launch the Closet Whisperer. I had so much fun shopping for that trip and putting looks together and was so enamored with the fashion over there that it pushed me to launch my personal shopping concierge service. I wanted to be able to help others who didn’t like to shop as much as I did or just simply didn’t have the time to. Everyone deserves to be fly!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I was so scared and nervous about how to structure the business and if people would pay for this service. I struggled with imposter syndrome and doubt, but I pushed through and made sure to register my business as an LLC and execute quality branding for my service. Shout-out to TheChloeBrand advising me and for my bomb website, business cards and helping with my content.

Once I launched, the two things I struggled with the most were content management and time management. I love to scroll on social media, but not use it for business. I am still getting better with consistent content creation that is relevant for my audience, but it takes time and commitment to grow my business. I also work full-time as a management consultant by day and closet consultant by night. Working a full-time job with a side hustle can be challenging for me to find the time to dedicate to my own business and is something I am still working on to this day. The side hustle lifestyle can be challenging, but I try not to be hard on myself and just do what I can when I can to create milestones and check off along the way.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving the me the gift and ability to help others. Next, I would definitely give the credit to my fiancé for always supporting literally all my crazy ideas and venting sessions. Sometimes you need that non-judgmental ear to vent to. I would also like to thank my friends and family for telling me for the last three years that I need to do something with this gift and love for fashion and constantly encourage me to never give up on it.

More importantly, I would like to thank my clients this past year who have trusted me to shop for them and provide pieces for their special events, birthdays, international trips, or just because treats! You all taught me a lot about how to improve my services to better meet your needs, so thank you!
