Meet Nahdiyah Anika Dennison of Divine Touch House of Healing in Cobb County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nahdiyah Anika Dennison.

Nahdiyah Anika, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Divine Touch House of Healing is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Substance Abuse and Mental Health Facility that’s goal is to heal “functional” adults and get them back on the path of independence without being dependent on substances. I myself experienced this life as a child. My father was a functional, working adult who kept his job at Bronx VA Hospital but he lost his family. I watched him year after year try to beat this disease, and year after year the disease won. My father contracted HIV in the late 1980’s and in 2013 he lost his battle due to complications of AIDS. I know personally what it takes for actual healing to take place of the horrific diseases of alcoholism, drug addiction, mental illness that stems from substance abuse. Speaking with my father after he chose the life of sobriety in 1999, he confided in me on what exactly kept him bound. His thing was forgiveness, he couldn’t forgive his father for the abuse he inflicted on him and his siblings. Everyone will have a different reason why, but there is a reason. And with proper care, and the steps I have in place, I will make sure that everyone that walks through my doors will leave healed! That’s my promise to myself.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being in the beginning stages of starting my Nonprofit I have had several challenges as well as great mentors directing me towards success. My challenges aren’t something that I focus on, I know what it is I need to do to get things done and accomplished! I’m excited about my process. Having a great Board of Directors as well as an awesome “take charge” President, Trudy Styles is what every start up company needs to walk into to success.

Please tell us about Divine Touch House of Healing.
As a child Nahdiyah, I always knew Divine Touch House of Healing Inc. (DTHH) would be open. I never knew in what capacity I would want to heal in this area. I watched my father attempt to break his addiction. Growing up in Bronx NY, I experienced a childhood of survival. Soon after my father overcame his habit, he was dealt another bad hand and lost his life to AIDS. His journey and life inspired my passion to help heal functional adults of substance abuse and those battling mental health issues. I am a Certified Reiki Practitioner, as well as a Certified Meditation Practitioner, and I’m currently taking a course to become a Certified Group Coach, so I can be hands on with my patients in the facility. I know that my facility will function as a place for individuals ready for intense internal healing.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I thank my father for being a great father during the time I lived with him and my mother for doing the best she could under the circumstances, and providing safety and therapy for my sister and I. I’m grateful she understood the importance of counseling. I’m super thankful to my husband (Conovas) and his support during this time of me building and forming this nonprofit, it’s been hard on him because I’m focused on opening by a certain time. I’m so grateful that the Creator has given me the vision, fortitude, the ambition, and the purpose, to see this facility come to fruition. And my family and friends for supporting me and being there for me during the hard times.
