Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Scott.
Mia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Beauty has always been a part of my life. I’m your typical girlie girl from San Diego. I enjoy shorts, a tank, and some flip flops. But plain doesn’t mean not beautiful. Nails, brows, lashes, and skincare is a must. These are essentials that make any woman look and feel good regardless of age. So I started my salon so that we busy women didn’t need to run around from salon to salon in an effort to make our beauty appointments. At Beauty Concierge, you can have your nails manicured, brows perfected, and makeup done professionally all in the same place while having great conversations over a glass of wine. In what we’ve become to know as traditional nail salons there is often a language barrier and time clock ticking as soon as you sit down.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has been a rocky road. Some of my struggles include finding people passionate about the industry, managing employees is always tough for me, and support. I say support because we don’t support each other enough unless there’s a celebrity name tied to it.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
I think beauty bars are going to be the women’s versions of barber shops!
What has been the primary challenge you’ve faced?
The biggest challenge I’d say thus far is getting people to forget about stereotypes. Good sanitary service is good service regardless of the ethnicity of the nail tech or the salon.
What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
Always be hiring…
