Meet Nakiya Reid of SkyTheModel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nakiya Reid.

Nakiya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up was hard, from being adopted to visually seeing domestic violence in my household on a regular. It eventually became normal life. I’m a model and normally when I say model most people first go to is “Instagram model” but no, I’m not an “Instagram model.”

I’m a fashion model who is very passionate about my work. I first started modeling when I was seven until the age of ten, then I took a break. Modeling gave me the confidence to be who I am today. I am 22 years old, and I am looking to get signed with an agency. It’s really hard for people to see my vision especially if they’re not used to that type of industry.

I look at modeling as an artwork. Modeling can be displayed anywhere, it can also tell a story. That’s all I’m trying to do is tell a story…

Has it been a smooth road?
No, not at all! The hardest part is trying to get people to see your content, your vision. You can like the look, but others may not like it oh so well.

My main goal is to make my supporters satisfied. Another struggle would be time management, and that’s why I fell off for a bit because I couldn’t manage school, after-school activities and modeling it was hard. I also worked so it was really hard.

We’d love to hear more about your career so far and what you specialize in.
I specialize in fashion modeling and runway modeling. I’m known for my height that’s where my nickname sky comes in at, lol.

I’m most proud of my confidence that I have gained over years because most people are scared to model because they have to show their bodies or pose a certain way and do certain things that they just aren’t use to but I am.

What sets me apart is I’m different, I’m not doing this for social media, I’m doing this because I want people to see my vision.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel like Atlanta is a good city to start out, but I also think Atlanta needs more agencies. I would recommend anyone to start out in Atlanta because you can network and meet so many people you never thought you would meet that could help you get to where you’re going.
