Today we’d like to introduce you to Nalah Lewis.
Nalah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The fitness world has always been a part of my background. I developed a passion for sports at a very young age in elementary school. Ball was definitely life lol. Right after high school, I joined the army reserves. That is the time period when my workouts greatly intensified and were the first time that I fell in love with fitness outside of sport.
All throughout college, I went to many group exercise classes, one in which I met my girlfriend. We both took a liking in the idea of wanting to become fitness coaches or instructors, so we did! I received my certification and began working for LA fitness for starters. I worked there for about six months until I felt I as though I had enough experience to do it on my own. I wanted to work for myself and actually care, love, support, and guide people in the way that they should be versus them being viewed as dollar signs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think everyone starting their own business or company has some bumps along the way. The biggest struggle that I’ve faced thus far was someone using my brand name as their own, and not being properly prepared to handle the legalities behind it at the time. It made me feel like I wasn’t on my shit. I wasn’t handling business in the way that I should have been.
Please tell us about Stronger Together Fitness.
I am Stronger Together Fitness. I am a personal trainer, nutrition coach, life coach, and a friend. I not only provide a service but I provide a family. I am known for sports/ agility training, rehabbing, weight loss, and very dynamic workouts. One day we might be in the woods, and one day we might be on a basketball court. Who knows? Lol, I like to switch it up and keep my clients guessing.
Stronger Together Fitness is a LGBT based fitness company. My goal everyday is to provide a health and fitness community within the gay community. In a political climate that is so divisive right now, I strive to provide a safe haven to a community that is often frowned upon. In society, we do such a good job of othering each other through race, sexual orientations, gender, and religion. We are so quick to push people away because of differences. My core belief is that we are STRONGER TOGETHER! You’re old? You are welcome! You’re disabled? You’re Welcome! You’re young? You’re welcome! It doesn’t matter if you’re happy, mad, sad, white, obese, or even heterosexual lol You Are Welcomed! The one thing we all have in common is that we all have bodies. We all need healthy bodies to do what we need to do on a daily basis! That is something that unifies us!
A lot of times in Big box gyms people are judged and ostracized because they may look differently, say someone dresses more androgynous or maybe a man speaks with a lighter voice.. they are pushed away instead of being embraced for those same very beautiful parts of themselves that make them different. I believe that everyone is my Pride are Kings and Queens. We are lions and lioness of the jungle! We are a Pride! Every successful individual knows that his or her achievements depend o a community of persons working together! You don’t have to walk on this journey alone.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t have a specific favorite memory from my childhood, but many of them involving my grandma are the winners. My grandmother raised me, and she is my heart.
