Meet Naomi Mitchell of Hyped 4 Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Mitchell.

Hi Naomi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started with my BS in Nutrition at UNLV in Las Vegas, NV. During my stay at UNLV I participated in research of how children under the age of 5 comprehend Nutrition. Being creative with children allowed my to grow my passion for teaching. I moved back to California to complete my Graduate degree at Loma Linda University (LLU). The LLU program helped coordinate my internship with Riverside School Districts’ Fresh Salad Bar Lunch Program and initiative for no child left hungry during summer break; the USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion and National Institute on Health for the Dietary Guidelines for all Americans; Loma Linda University Hospital, Diabetic Treatment Center, Kidney Transplant Center, and campus encompassing health and work-life balance. When I began working I juggled several positions simultaneously to soak up as much knowledge as possible from hospitals, dialysis clinics, independent care facilities, teaching health classes, nutrition management and education for rural facilities, VA facilities and more. Recently I moved to Georgia to start my private practice where I educate those in need of nutrition guidance, and also coordinate contracts for local private facilities, and grant programs.

Currently, I am focusing on recruiting the public to vote on the Medical Nutrition Act of 2021 which expands Medicare Medical Nutrition Therapy Coverage allowing Dietitians to provide education on more than Diabetes and Kidney disease (obesity, prediabetes, high blood pressure, malnutrition, cancer, HIV, heart disease and more). Taking 5 minutes to go to https://www.votervoice.net/mobile/EATRIGHT/1/campaigns/85059/respond will send congress a letter on your behalf urging the support needed for more nutrition coverage for those with reduced access to healthcare.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In order to gather funding to get started I had to work multiple jobs at once, and sacrifice my social life. Although there are books and chat groups giving advice to get started, running a business is a learning experience every single day. Coordinating with insurance companies, staffing needs, and staying on top of technology is ongoing. I love every struggle because I enjoy the process of learning and becoming better every day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We provide Nutrition counseling in person at our Stockbridge, GA office location, via Telehealth, or mobile appointments. Individuals in need of Nutrition sign off for Bariatric Surgery most often utilize the mobile appointments so Dietitians can help review cooking and pantry choices. We practice in general nutrition with a focus in Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, Renal, and Diabetes management. We also coordinate with Mind and Body Solutions specializing in Neuropsychology diagnostics, mental health and family therapies. Together we are excited to be working on some coordinated care classes in the near future. Hyped 4 Health also offers a free outdoor activity group through Meetup.com: Metro ATL Beginner Hiking. Getting healthy is not just about what you eat, but also about how much you move your body. Hiking outdoors may burn up to 4 times what a gym visit does. Americans tend to work more which for some means more sitting or standing still. We are here to motivate people to move more and have a healthy relationship with food. What does this mean? It means we want to help you understand food so you are not on a permanent “diet” but a health journey!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I do not think luck has anything to do with my life. I think I am blessed to have the social connections and support whether permanent or temporary.

Persistence plays a big role in my life for the good and bad; it can annoy some but it always gets tasks completed. Not giving up is why I am a business owner.
