Meet Dr. Natasha Ramsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Natasha Ramsey.

Hi Dr. Natasha Ramsey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins with me being born to a teen mom with an 8th grade education. I experienced many traumas throughout my childhood. My aunt was killed when I was five by her boyfriend. At 16, I became a teen mom and quickly realized I am repeating what came before me. I had a 10th grade education. I was determined that his life would be different. I would have a total of 5 children by the time I was 22. During that time, I earned my GED. The fathers of my children were physically and emotionally abusive. The final straw was my twins father throwing a gun at my head after having pulled a gun on me and asking me to beg for my life. I made a plan and I executed that plan. I left him and immediately enrolled in college. In 2001, I married my current husband and gained two bonus children. It would take me ten years to obtain my BS in Psychology. I then went to work for Emory University as a Psychometrist. In 2013, I earned my MA in Professional Counseling and in 2021, I earned my Doctorate in Psychology becoming the first doctor in my family and the most educated member of my immediate family. In 2019, I opened my private practice to support my community and to support those with trauma and abuse in their childhood. My children and now grandchildren have and will always be my motivation.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road has been anything but smooth. I had to overcome childhood sexual abuse and grooming. I had to navigate the world of domestic violence and single parenting. I raised children while earning my degrees. And my final degree was earned while helping my husband of now 20 years to fight a rare cancer and grow my private practice.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My practice is designed to offer the latest and best practices for those suffering from childhood traumas. While sexual abuse and domestic violence are among my specialties, I also have a rare speciality. I specialize in helping folks with conversion disorder, functional neurological disorders, somatic disorders and puesdo-non-epileptic seizures. This came about working with this high population during my time with Emory working in Neurology. I am most proud of being able to help individuals that appear to have something neurological going on but it’s actually psychological and helping people who look like me overcome their past and create the future they desire and deserve. My brand represents the high level of resilience that has sustained me nearly 50 years. My brand has allowed me to blend psychology and faith to work to heal the whole person. I understand that if I make a difference in the client’s life, I impact their life, their families, employment, and community as a whole. I offer individual and couples counseling via telehealth to eliminate barriers to treatment. I also offer supervision to those in my field seeking licensure. I love to journal so I have journals that I sell as well as shirts.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was insecure and suffering largely from the impact of childhood trauma and a transient lifestyle. I am bi-racial and never truly embraced all the parts until my adult life. I did not have but one friend that has been a part of my life since I was three years old. I was a perfectionist and still am on some level. I was a chatty child and still am when necessary. And somehow through all, I have always believed there was a purpose for all that I had experienced and that I was destined to do something with the pain. I enjoyed education and strived to do well as I appreciated praise for a job well done. I enjoyed sewing and cross-stitch. I still do but I added crocheting to the list.
