Today we’d like to introduce you to Natashia Dobbs and Janeaka Brice.
Natashia and Janeaka, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Janae X Nicole Boutique is an online women’s clothing boutique. Owned and operated by two young women, me (Janae) and Nicole. We were always looking for different ways to express our personal styles. We wanted a brand that represents both of us and can relate to the average woman. Janae caters to more of average woman sizes. My style of clothing depicts some of my personal styles. To me, it’s important to look good or else you won’t feel good. I want every girl to be able to come to our website and feel like its something for everybody. All types of styles. Nicole represents the curvy collection. Being a curvy woman, I had a hard time finding clothes that fit well. I wanted to find clothing that flatters women bodies, to show women with curves that you can look good in anything and that fashion has no size. It’s okay to be confident, to own your body and show it off. I hope to continue to make curvy women embrace who they are.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running a business is never easy! It takes a lot of time, money, and patience that goes into making a business successful. We are building a brand from nothing. We started off with zero followers and a website, not all the way put together. It’s been a challenge gaining followers on our social media pages and turning those followers into customers. We are basically teaching ourselves how to run a business, and how to market our brand. It has also been hard gaining support from other people.
Please tell us about Janae X Nicole Boutique.
Janae X Nicole Boutique is an online boutique. We sell women’s clothing. We carry sizes small to 3x something for all body shapes and sizes. We pride ourselves on appealing to average and everyday women. When you come to our site we want you to feel like you can wear these clothes. Envision yourself in our JXN outfits. We have models with different body shapes to show off our clothing. We are a business for all types of women. Not just what you see nowadays such as the extra slim waist, fat backside and big breast women our generation is being shown. A lot of women aren’t shaped like that in real life. We would like to say that’s what we are most proud of our diversity and individuality by showing off different body styles. By doing this, we are bringing something new to the table this sets us aside from other boutiques. We put so much passion and love behind our name and the way we carrying ourselves as business women.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had to start over, we would have saved more money and wrote out budget plans for inventory and marketing. Those are two essential things when running a business making sure you are in stock with items to sell. Next, you need to be able to get your product in front of buyers so marketing plays a big role. However, things don’t always go as planned though. We planned for everything but things happen when running a business. You have to adjust to what is happening. Stay on your toes and ready for whatever is thrown your way.
