Meet Nathan of Underdog Spraying

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan.

Hi Nathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Originally, in 2009 I had aspirations of developing a landscape company in hopes of creating a successful business for my family. Me and my son operated and managed LB’s Landscaping for 13yrs.. Along the way we’ve gained a wealth of knowledge in this field and valuable relationships that can never be replaced, which we will always cherish. Fast forward to 2022, I was blessed with the opportunity to not only take but pass the General Standards and Category 24 State required certification test. This certification allows for the legal application of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides to ornamental turf (residential and commercial grass). I honestly considered continuation of the landscaping aspirations once the test was passed. After prayer and careful consideration, I decided to dissolve LB’s Landscaping and go full time into my new field. I wouldn’t call it a comeback, I would liken it to a FRESH START with a brand new look and name known as UNDERDOG SPRAYING. We appreciate the Atlanta Ga area for being so good to us, especially the area of South Fulton where we gained and maintained a majority of our relationships. Thank you to ALL! We welcome everyone, those new and old to embark with us on our new Journey of making your lawn look beautiful. If we as UNDERDOGS can succeed in a filed where it’s not likely, then we know without a doubt we can bring your lawn up to par even if it seems like it’s impossible. Which is why we firmly believe and stand by our motto: DON’T COUNT YOUR LAWN OUT

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it’s been pretty smooth. The only hard part about it is getting adjusted to new customers and establishing not only the relationship, but the protocol pertaining to the service being conducted. There is a learning curve when dealing with chemicals. Coming from our previous background of Landscaping, there is a high probability of readjusting. So we dealt with that and after the first year, we were moving along pretty good. It’s a part of business so we wouldn’t call it a struggle per se.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Underdog Spraying?
We’re a father and son owned weed control/fertilization and mosquito control company. We specialize and strive to keep a weed free lawn by eliminating pesky weeds while feeding, aka fertilizing the lawn to assist is a plush green outdoor space.

As father and son, we have a work relationship that started 17yrs ago, a rarity in a good majority of minority owned businesses.

We are most proud of our company in general from the name, to the family, to the business. In all three areas we take pride in our moral and values. The money will come. If being honest with integrity slows down our financial and business growth, we’d choose honesty and integrity every time.

Our main concern is for us to provide the best service possible to all of our customers. Our open door policy allows both client and owner to interact directly regarding questions or concerns. This allows a customer based relationship needed for improvement and or necessary changes. We value our customers now and those that will become apart of Underdog Spraying. Whether we provide service to customers or hire those to join our company, everyone will be treated as family. The model we set for ourselves is based on family. We’re not only looking for financial independence but we’re looking to establish a lasting name. A name that will carry on for centuries. Our Name is most important to us than anything.

How do you think about luck?
We don’t adhere to luck but we do acknowledge blessings. Blessings have been a major part in our lives. Waking up everyday is a blessing. The mindset to grind and work hard has been a huge blessing for us. We’ve been put in position with wise and upstanding individuals in our field that we consider now as family. Before we started as father and son in our new field, we set goals, prayed about it, executed the plan and the Lord rewarded and is still rewarding us because of our obedience and consistency.
