Today we’d like to introduce you to Naturee Wells.
Naturee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Originally, I entered the beauty game as a hairstylist who specialized in short cuts. I did that for a few years before I got burnt out on the long days on my feet and the catty behavior at the salon. I went back to school to become a paralegal and worked for a friend of mine’s law firm before I decided to venture off to what I thought was a lateral career move. I found that law firms can be just as catty and dysfunctional as hair salons and wished I’d never stopped working for my friend’s firm. The next two firms I worked for wasn’t a good fit at all. I got fired and decided never to leave my future in the hands of anyone else’s but my own. My boyfriend saw my frustration and decided to send me to a lash class so I could learn a new trade. I was taught by Miss Conceited, Shaunell Kennard. I began working in her lash bar before venturing off on my own. I currently work at Synergy Suites and also travel to my clients for home lashing appointments.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Entrepreneurship is NOT EASY. Social media makes it look easy but there are a lot of sacrifices that you have to make in order for you to be successful. There are times even to this day that I want to say F this and get a regular job with a guaranteed paycheck. However, I keep going, learn how to revamp my brand and keep it fresh and keep my clients coming back. Social media helps but my clients are amazing and always refer their friends, family or even random strangers.
Please tell us about Misfit Lashes.
Misfit Lashes isn’t your average lash company. I’m a lash artist who actually cares about your natural lashes. I focus on isolating each natural lash to maintain retention and fullness. I also teach classes on how to become a lash artist. When my clients come in to get their lashes done, it’s almost like a therapy session along with a lash appointment. I provide a calming place for my clients and if they want, get out whatever issues are bothering them while they get their lashes enhanced. When they leave from their appointment, not only do they feel a boost in their appearance but also feel lighter in their spirit.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have used my paralegal income to fund my business. It definitely would have been less stressful, LOL.
