Today we’d like to introduce you to Nefertiti Exposé.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband and I met and started dating in 2010. I (Nefertiti) was in college for bio-science and he (Bradley) started college shortly after to be a dentist. Where things got interesting though, was when I realized he could NOT STOP TALKING about film/movies. It was so weird to me because when he would talk about film, he was extremely passionate about it. However; I NEVER heard him talk about anything dental related, even though he was working towards a degree in that. For me personally, my parents had always instilled in me the courage to do anything I wanted to do. For example, I’d hear my dad say “You can be whatever you want to be in this life and we’ll support you as long as it’s right and legal.” He would also say: “even if you want to be a garbage truck driver… be the best one you can be.” So, to revert back to the timeline, time had passed (about 2 years) and I realized that my husband (then boyfriend) started slacking in school. This disappointed me because I love college and I take it very seriously and don’t think people should go if they are going to waste time and money. I’m working towards my second degree in Education and I’m on the Dean’s list every term. But he at this point just made it clear that he was being a typical student that just “goes” to college and chooses a major off the list. So, long story short, I encouraged him to drop out of college and pursue a career in film. Everybody thought I was crazy, he thought I was crazy… but I believed in him and just knew that he had the talent and means to be successful. In 2012, he dropped out of college and I was so happy. Shortly after, he started attending film events and getting acquainted with other pros in the industry. In 2013 he bought his first set of film equipment and was able to produce his first short film which is happily always going to be showcased on our website (http://bit.ly/bcsmcf). Honestly, from then on it’s been an uphill journey. Between 2014 and 2015, he produced four more short films and one of them ended up hitting a small theatre in Atlanta. In 2016, we decided to branch off into weddings (https://bit.ly/bcwfilms) and make our business official with a website and business cards, etc.
February of that year, we filmed our first wedding together at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. That quickly became a major stream of income for our business and we even started traveling for weddings as well. In 2017, we got married and quit our 9-5 jobs. We went full time with our bizz by filming weddings, making short films and also traveled for eight months. At the end of 2017, we had doubled our income from the year before. 2018 was a year to remember also as we started building our online presence via social media and branched off again to film commercials for businesses social media platforms. We were able to land one of our biggest and most amazing clients to this day with Hampton + Hudson: an upbeat bar/restaurant in Inman Park, ATL with delicious food and events. Through them, we were able to produce video content with the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United. We have come a long way and are blessed to see the fruit of our labor!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We know what it’s like to experience the smooth road. But we’ll be the first ones to tell you that starting up, running and managing a business is not easy. Our biggest roadblock has been gaining traction and visibility for our business. A person can open up a shop on a corner, but if nobody knows they exist – they won’t make any money. This was tough for us until we decided to hire a mentor and dive into online advertising. I won’t say it’s been all roses and daisy’s since, but now we are able to have new clients and customers visit our websites and submit online inquiries around the clock on automation. Then, we also have a word of mouth method for marketing that has done us well also. Advertising is a long term journey that requires innovation.
Bradley Cinema – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our businesses are Bradley Cinema and Bradley Cinema Weddings (named after my husband). Through Bradley Cinema, we produce commercials for business and short films. Through Bradley Cinema Weddings, we produce wedding films for couples who value our work and price tag.
We are most known for our weddings and commercials because they get shared so much on social media. Our short films are working their way up the ladder and our long term goal is to produce Christian based feature films.
We are most proud of the connections and relationships that we’ve established with our clients and customers. That is what makes what we do the most meaningful. We aim to serve others and not the other way around.
What sets us apart from other companies is how much we value the people we work with. When we do what we do, it is more than just a transaction to us or a check. Our goal is never to brag, but we are followers of Jesus Christ and don’t believe that business is just about making the “money.” We try our best to go above and beyond for those we work with and partner with even if that means doing just a little more than we are paid for. We treat people well and aim to “love our neighbors” like the Bible instructs.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Honestly, I would say that we have two. The first most proud moment for us was when we quit our 9-5 jobs and went full time with our business. This was something that alot of naysayers believed we couldn’t do, so we were extremely proud to have had the ability and capacity to meet that goal. Our second most proud moment was when Atlanta United personnel watched one of the videos we had produced for one of their watch parties at Hampton + Hudson and said: “This was by far one of the best videos we’ve ever seen.” They made this comment during a tough time in our business. So, it gave us the motivation to stick it out, not give up and press forward. So glad we did because if we didn’t, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
