Today we’d like to introduce you to Nekeidra “Niki” Taylor.
Hi Nekeidra “Niki”, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I actually began my career at The Washington Post, where I started as an intern and eventually became a full-time Public Relations Representative. While my title was specific, the role was multifaceted. It was a blend of community affairs, event planning, and strategic PR for a newspaper. It was there that I learned PR isn’t just about launching campaigns; it’s about human connection and creating an impact. My time at The Post also sparked my passion for working with nonprofits, which remains a key area of my work today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any real journey, mine has had plenty of ups and downs. I’ve seen it all: the big hires, the tough layoffs, and the ‘fires’ that come with the territory. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade the bumps in the road; if it had been a smooth ride, I wouldn’t be half as adaptable or resourceful as I am today. Learning when to pivot is what led me to start Niki Taylor PR. Stepping out on my own was a defining moment, and the opportunities that have followed have proven that this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of Niki Taylor Public Relations. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Niki Taylor PR is a communications firm dedicated to the nonprofit sector. We are based in Atlanta but have had the privilege of partnering with some of the country’s most impactful organizations, including the National PTA, the American Cancer Society, the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), and the CDC Foundation.
What sets us apart is our ability to understand and tell the story of our clients while advocating for their mission. We craft narratives that resonate with all stakeholders. PR, at the core, is to tell and sell the story. That is what we do.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If I could offer two pieces of advice to those starting out, it would be this: First, know your audience. You have to deeply understand who they are to know how you can truly serve them. Second, find your tribe. Surround yourself with like-minded people who understand the hustle and can support you through the tough spots. Success isn’t just about what you know—it’s about the community that stands behind you and who you know. Relationships are everything.
