Meet Nelly P

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nelly P.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It’s amazing how many things you actually think about and even what all you would want to share. So first, I’m Shanel Parsons by way of Nelly P. I’m an HBCU Graduate of The North Carolina Central University, where I obtained my Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Information Systems.

I am the owner of Nelly P., LLC, which is all things curated to motivate, encourage, and inspire, with a strong focus on motivational content. I started out by sending motivational messages to friends. The need for encouragement was ideally for me. I was in a rough patch in life. Often I always would think, I can’t be the only one that needs to be uplifted, so why not share? So that’s what I started doing. From the single messages sent out to friends, one day, I had the urge to post to my social media a message in a text bubble to see if there would be any feedback. It literally was the move for me going forward. Initially, I was a little nervous, just because you never know how people will receive you. Needless to say, the content has done more than I could have ever imagined. Honestly speaking, I know my messages reach people that I’ll never have the opportunity to meet, and for that, I am overly grateful. The messages turned into video content over the years, which has been the best thing I could have ever done. People can relate more when they HEAR you versus reading words. From my videos, I was able to brand myself. “Good People What’s Poppin!!” is how I greet my audience daily and has been the slogan to help expand myself, and branding into merchandise and a new 30 day eBook Devotional. The journey has been an amazing man and I look forward to where this will take me.

To rewind a bit, I grew up in a small marine-based city, Jacksonville, NC. This is where my foundation of faith even started. The church was literally LIFE. And at such a young age, OF COURSE, it wasn’t by choice. LoL. Regardless of the way I felt then towards it, I look back today and I’m just so grateful that my father and mother instilled in me the things they did. And as often as I complained about the church and being there, everything I learned has come full circle in my adult life. I’ve learned that having a RELATIONSHIP with God is necessary, and Life is pretty much impossible without it. So many things you learn that don’t really make sense until life starts happening for you. And for me, that was probably when I went off to college. I’ve been through things that could have easily destroyed me, but by the grace of God, I’m still standing. And I’m becoming the best version of me daily.

There’s many things that goes into a person’s story, and thankfully enough, mine is still being written. That’s a piece of it, though. I know I’m operating in my purpose, and I know that my voice will reach the masses. I know the seeds I’m sowing will continue to create harvest for me and as my harvest continues to show, I pray that I can continue to sow seeds not only into my own life but in people’s lives around the world. Each one teach one.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say creating motivational content is the easy part for me because I always have something to say. I always find “a word” in any situation… Literally. LoL. So producing content on a day to day basis for my Good People is easy and I look forward to it.

If anything, the business side of it was slightly different. Creating Merchandise, creating an eBook. Mostly because there’s so many things one can “not know” and the thousand fears and risks your mind can think of! But thank God for Google and friends who’ve already started businesses of their own! Thank God for a village who believes in me! Pushing past my own procrastinations and getting out of my own head, has been a test as well. But all things come together how they should every single time. And it becomes a constant reminder that I’m in my purpose. Big Joys, nothing small about it.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a motivational content creator. All things motivating flows from Nelly P., LLC. Currently, my content is on Instagram and Facebook. You can catch it daily. During the pandemic, I created a 30 Day eBook devotional as well; GPWP: The Quarantine Edition” a 30-day ebook devotional for real,” which is available on Amazon, through the kindle app. My merchandise, Good People What’s Poppin!!, is also available for purchase. All of the links to everything will be with my handle on IG. The business is still growing and I’m looking forward to the world opening back up and some more of my ideas coming into fruition.

I specialize in making people feel good, not only about themselves but about life. And also letting them know they aren’t alone. Life is hard, ya know? And I’m here to try to help make that load a little lighter the best way I can. I think that’s what sets me apart, my ability to be relatable, but still, deliver a message all in the same. Nelly P is known to be heard and seen. Lol. I’m the life liver, and the good time haver!! Infectious, to say the least. That’s what I’m known for and I love that about me!

What I’m most proud of as a company? That it even exists. That I even took a chance on me. That I’m not only investing in myself, but other people, and I found a way to make it into a business. That’s what I’m proud of.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, haha! I was actually very quiet in public. I terrorized my big sister, but I was very shy around people. I always had a strong personality, though and a presence about me, from what I was told. Now would you say I would grow up creating motivational content for the masses, with my own business? Not necessarily lol but hey, my parents aren’t shocked… so hey! lol
