Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Love.
Nick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m born and raised here in Atlanta. I’m actually a “Grady Baby” (born at the infamous Grady Hospital). I grew up on Glenwood Rd and Candler Rd in Decatur. During my first year at Georgia State University, I decided to pursue a career in music as a rapper/singer. Upon completing my first project, my mentor at the time, Jason McPhee, introduced me to Marketing. I fell in love with it and I never looked back. I stopped doing music and I began to intern for various music labels in the city. I worked with Ludacris, DJ Toomp, Dallas Austin, and more. Then, I got my big score as the VP of Marketing for CTE, the record label owned by multi-platinum Hip Hop star Young Jeezy.
I built my name there and then went on to co-found the Coalition DJs (the strip club DJs widely recognized for breaking the trap sound in Hip Hop that Atlanta is known for). We’ve been featured in Wall Street Journal, Complex, and more.
During a lull in business, I ventured out and started my current venture, The Bite Life. This allowed me to merge my 2 loves – the music business and food. Now, I get to check out new restaurants and entertain my music friends at the same time.
Has it been a smooth road?
No road in business is ever smooth. Since the inception of The Bite Life, I’ve run into personal issues with family, hiring the wrong employees and interns, money issues in launching, and deals with companies that didn’t pan out. I’m also venturing into a territory that none of my immediate peers in the music industry have any experience with so I’m kinda shooting in the dark everyday trying to hit something.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The best way to describe The Bite Life is that it’s where Food Network meets the pages of popular urban culture rag Vibe Magazine. This brand seeks to bridge the gap between American foodie culture and the hip-hop generation ages 18-49. By highlighting the best culinary options in cities nationwide and interviewing the best and brightest from music, sports, and entertainment, viewers will get a glimpse into what it’s like to dine and indulge with the culture’s coolest.
Originally dubbed as ATL Bite Life, The Bite Life was created down in Atlanta, GA by music biz marketing exec Nick Love. Back in 2010, Love’s accountant informed him that he’d spent nearly 50% of his annual income dining out. It was at that moment he realized that his vice could double as an entertaining and educational tool for his friends and family. Who better than someone who’d pretty much eaten EVERYWHERE to tell you what’s good and what’s not?
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is ideal for a business like mine because it lends itself to both sides of my dynamic – music and food. ATL has long been considered “Black Hollywood” because all of the celebrities are here, especially the Hip Hop artists. I have access to people every day that other people trying to do something similar would have to either travel here for or wait until the person came to their city. Then, on the food side, there seems to be a new restaurant opening up every day out here. Atlanta is rapidly becoming a more eclectic culinary city. It’s not just soul food anymore. Honestly, it never was. But now, top chefs from all over are coming to Atlanta and opening up top rated restaurants and the world is taking notice. Atlanta is absolutely the best place for me to launch The Bite Life and truly thrive.
