Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Losado.
Nico, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally from Augusta, GA. I started modeling when I was 19-20 years old but decided I enjoyed the behind the scenes rather than being in front of the camera. Years later I relocated to Atlanta, GA permanently where I began to work as an assistant to a photographer as well as getting into styling. Since teaching myself modeling & styling, I used these skills to open and start my agency Bri’geid in 2015 and started to develop models that were really fulfilling.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a young African-American business owner in his mid-twenties does not come without struggles. Not dissimilar to the fashion industry, I wanted to represent models of diverse backgrounds races, lifestyles, and nationalities. Being that many owners are not minorities, I felt as though I could fill a gap and navigate the fashion industry from a different lens.
Other struggles have been feeling as though I have to work twice as hard to earn the trust of signing and scouting models. Many other agencies may be entrusted automatically. This never weighed on me as I know that my work is proof itself and I still get to retain my authenticity being that I own my own business. Also, I work with models, that not only appreciate it but are genuine themselves and it is reflective in their modeling which makes it really rewarding to work with them.
Please tell us about BRI’GEID AGENCY.
BRI’GEID Mother Agency was founded in 2015, specializing in finding amazing individuals on Instagram and developing them into the best models they can be. 95% of all the models we represent were scouted on a social media platform. We focus on hand-selecting talent internationally with personality, individual style, and talent. The agency is for people with real lives on the verge of exploding in music, fashion, art, illustration & creative industries, etc. We place our models locally, nationally, and internationally. Each model’s plan is specialized to fit his or her very unique place in the business. Personal attention is paramount and we emphasize the family feel of the Agency.
