Meet Nicolas Fernandez of NicolasPHCo in Woodstock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolas Fernandez.

Nicolas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started photography when I was a kid. I’ve always been expressing my thoughts through art since I had memory. But, in my last high school year in Colombia, I realize that photography was the best way to do it. When I moved to the States, every just got better for me. I started getting a lot of shoots done, meet amazing models and great photographers. I also get into a company that works based on photos for high schoolers. I think I have progressed a lot since I came here and I really proud of that.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not really, it’s been rough. Been an immigrant that doesn’t know anyone is pretty hard in this field. Get to know people when English is not your first language is pretty hard, and also the cultural difference. It took me almost a year and a half to actually understand how life works in the US. The culture is so different that I got depressed. I used to see people every time in the streets but here is completely the opposite.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the NicolasPHCo story. Tell us more about the business.
My trademark is NicolasPhCo. I’m a Photographer based in Woodstock, Georgia. I specialized in portrait and fashion photography. I’m really proud of what I had become as a photographer because I inspire people to create art. I don’t know if I’m different from other photographers since we all being amateurs at the beginning. I love photography. It is something that makes me feel myself. I enjoy the process of shooting, editing and delivering to the client. I try to give every photo a special treatment just like I was thinking about a baby.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I never felt that I had luck. I think luck is an opportunity that we create. And to create that small opportunity, you need to work hard and being humble. Photography is an industry that requires patience and perseverance. You are not gonna be famous or publish in a magazine with your first hundreds of photos. You need to get experience and love for what you do. Luck is just a small factor overall.
